I only speak for myself, and I want that caveat clear.

The polling and the reporting of the polling as a bit of doom scrolling clickbait requires a reckoning within media. The polls -- and several experts and academics have shown this and have been stating this -- are neither being done well nor explained well, and there are too many of them to properly inform the public. And, in the end, if we have been taught anything since 2016, it's that betting on an election, even in the manner of polling, is grossly flawed.

What is going to happen in ? Who knows. And, that's the most accurate statement any can make.

When I tried to do a standard legal explainer, I'd get hit in the comment by a tsunami of rage, cynicism, and misinformation.

One option is not to read the comments. But I like to read through them because questions help me focus.

So I decided to get to the root of the problem.

Well, now you have me thinking. Let me see if I can accurately put my thoughts into words as I work this through.

We want Trump and his cohort to face justice. That is what we, being in a democracy, have to grasp onto: that they will be held accountable for the hell they brought to our country.

But, as you stated, an indictment is not a guarantee of any ruling of guilt and sentence (or, in terms of his civil woes, ruling of responsibility and court-ordered damages). And, Trump and his cohort have all the rights we have (and, if we love democracy, we insist they have those rights and those rights should be upheld).

Nevertheless, what we have is the hope of justice -- perhaps not perfect, but that Trump and his cohort do not get away with what they've done.

Yet, you mention, time in prison is no deterrent. A prison sentence does not reform.

So, what do we have to hope for?

I want justice because I want what happened to never be allowed to get a foothold again. I can already see how Trump, feeling heavily attacked and realizing he is in deep doo-doo, has doubled down on his anti-democratic rhetoric and actions. His major and various legal woes are not reforming him, at all. Just as we may see in someone who has served a prison sentence, he is worse.

If not guilt and responsibility to bring conclusion and safety, what is the outcome we need? Is it from this we need our democratic systems to be stronger? That we need to decouple our definition of justice from Trump and his cohort. I am getting from your post that the rational outcome is that stronger democratic systems is our justice.
