Time for a proper introduction. I am a literature teacher, mostly retired. I love reading, music, baking, nature & cats. I am learning to boost a lot, which includes my passion for a truly inclusive world, so lots of support for Black, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, Women, Working Class, & other rights. I understand users who want Mastodon to be a quiet corner, but I am more concerned about what happens if we look the other way when people suffer.

Having trouble voting for Biden? Boost another ticket in the run up to 2028—when the incumbent is ineligible.

In 2024, a vote for ANYONE BUT Biden/Harris IS A VOTE FOR THE GOP.

Sit it out? That’s a vote for GOP.

Democrats are far from perfect. Change the system! If you choose to destroy it, you may not see democracy again in your lifetime. Trust the collective history of third-party and other spoilers.

Voting for the guy who has allowed the slaughter in Gaza, and dropped bombs on Iraq and Yemen, is the only way to stop something worse…

Unfortunately, I will be voting for no-one, as I am a Brit in Japan, watching the American hegemony spin the world towards its doom, as oil, and arms, and tech oligarchs get greedier and more desperate.

But, if I were American, I would hold my nose and vote for Biden; because a GOP lunatic really would be worse, whoever gets picked.

@StillIRise1963 “Common sense” would be doing something to save a dying planet, instead of dooming our children, and theirs.

“Better than Trump” is not enough, and agitation is required to let the wealthy know that.

There are a lot of rich folks out there who would be happier with Trump than with real systemic change.

Voting for Biden is better than voting for Trump; but it’s still voting for a dead planet. We need to look outside the box of offered choice.

I met the engineers whose sea drones were blocked when Starlink didn't function in September 2022, because Musk feared "World War Three." But they tried the same attack again a month later, and they hit several targets in Sebastopol.

    A study on from 2020 is now peer-reviewed and published. The study gave $7500 cash to homeless people in Vancouver and compared their outcome versus a control group. The result was clear:

    “The recipients of the cash transfers did not increase spending on drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, but did increase spending on food, clothes, and rent, according to self-reports. What’s more, they moved into stable housing faster and saved enough money to maintain financial security over the year of follow-up.”

    Further, each person who moved into stable housing one year faster saves the city over $8000 per year, which makes this program cheaper than existing housing programs.

    Universal Basic Income works. It sounds so obvious when you say it out loud, but: giving people cash lifts them out of poverty. We need to do that more.

    FYI: Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito — both of whom accepted luxury vacations from billionaires — could rule on an upcoming Supreme Court case that would ban a federal wealth tax.

    If they don’t recuse themselves, why would we expect Americans to ever trust SCOTUS again?
