"Saving the First Draft of History:

When news sites suddenly shut down and former URLs are sold to the highest bidder, saving a publisher's archive becomes a time-consuming and rigorous full-time job in the digital age."

I wrote about how Patreon needs to join the social web before Fediverse Threads takes its place:

"Why would a creator send their audience to a third-party platform when Instagram and Threads can be a one-stop-shop with their existing followers while having access to new paid subscribers across the social web?

Patreon can no longer just be the place where creators are paid, it needs to be a place where creators can be discovered. And it cannot do that as a social silo."

Your move, Patreon 🚨

Let's be clear: This is absolute BS.

The entire purpose of a platform like Threads is its algorithm. He claims its not suppressing political news, its just amplifying EVERY OTHER KIND OF CONTENT.

That's suppression.

I don't know what's worse: the truth about what they are doing or the fact that they won't own up to it

"The Verge and 404 Media are building out new functions that would allow them to distribute posts on their sites and on federated platforms – like Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky – at the same time. Replies to those posts on those platforms become comments on their sites."

If you're not looking at @theverge and @404mediaco as social web platforms that are hosting hand-picked content creators with a publisher's infrastructure, you're not paying attention.

Google's search engine used to be one of the most secretive, closely-guarded black boxes in the world.

Perhaps not anymore.

In the last quarter century, no leak of this magnitude or detail has ever been reported from Google’s search division. If you're in SEO or care about search engine traffic, you should probably see this.
