There's are 2 reasons why I worked on a very specialized devtool (MiBPoV) for (that will likely not be used very often):

  1. No such libre (!) tool existed. The default recommendation to devs so far was "use GeoGebra" but this is proprietary and it was painful to make it work anyway
  2. I needed an excuse to actually do a larger project after completing the tutorial 🤓

I just learned of the biggest feature I heard of: "view once" images in . The idea is that if you send an image and select the "view once" option, the receiver may only "view it once". After that, it's deleted. And they claim it "prevents screenshots". How? I have no idea.

It doesn't matter because the whole concept is bullshit, of course.

A not very well-understood form of #bigotry is #aphobia.

An #educational thread. 🧵

Aphobia is bigotry against #asexual (#ace) or #aromantic (#aro) people (sometimes agender, too). And in the following posts I will do a little explainer.

(I won't talk about agender, because I'm not agender.)

I can highly recommend by the way, I've been a heavy contributor to the map in the past but stopped because my main interest has changed.
I've spent considerable time with , a powerful tool to edit the map.

But I am still in full support of the community map project idea and I want OSM to be used and normalized.

I don't understand why so many people still default to Google Maps or even Apple Maps.

I have 2 questions to all nerds in here:

Q1: I am unsure how the rule of threefold repetition works exactly in the FIDE Laws of Chess. I want to know when 2 positions are the same.

Consider this example:
In position A, white has all castling rights but cannot execute them because the path is blocked. In pos. B, white has no castling rights but everything else (pieces, en passant status, etc.) is identical. Are A and B the "same" position?

Many people have been talking about deleting their account and posts because they hate what the Reddit CEO does.

While I welcome a major (I never posted on Reddit because it's ), I urge people to their high-quality posts (those that have helped a large number of people) before they delete their account for good.

And then repost your high-quality stuff somewhere else for archival purposes.

Just a suggestion.

Very good news: is going to define a new special "internal" meant for use in internal networks only. This TLD is meant to never be used in the broader . 👍

I hope vendors will now react so that those hacky config like "fritz.box" will be replaced with something that ends with ".internal". Those hacky domains always left a bad taste in my mouth.

It's not 100% official yet but the chances look good.

Unless new info emerges, I cannot recommend in good conscience. Federation doesn't fix this IMHO because being a main developer is a high position and it also affects non-dev things like donations.

For this reason, I wish to distance myself from .

just passed a new law, called , that grants , and people the right to change their official name and gender without much bureaucracy. It takes in effect at Nov 1.

What they need to do is request it as some office, wait 3 months, then request again and it's official.

After the attack, I have a suggestion for all forges (, , , , etc.):
Have some way to visualize binary files better, including diffs to such files. Cuz now, we have basically nothing except byte counters.
Since they're binary files, it must be as generic as possible. But even some rendering or analysis is better than nothing.

The idea is to expose weird patterns in binary files that could be a sign of an attack.

But I also blame Pokémon Go; the game should have never trusted a source data blindly in the first place; if you know the Internet, you should have predicted this.

Fun with the : They keep the scoring system like a big mysterious secret. Well, turns out someone has actually reverse-engineered the entire thing. 😂

They made a toy where you can instantly see the result of each answer. You can find it with a little Internet searching.
And surprise surprise, it's literally just every answer moves you either on the auth or econ axis by some points. That's the whole secret!

And yes, this makes me take the test even less serious. 😂

They claim BlueSky is supposed to be "" and "" but then why didn't they just join or contribute to ? Making a new app I can 100% understand but also making a brand new protocol? WHY?

I'm not sure how "open" BlueSky really is (their recent plans to monetize features are very ) but either way, BlueSky and its protocol feel like a gigantic Not Invented Here syndrome. 🙄

In 's rationale to go after 100s of clones, they keep bringing up a new term: "copyrighted ".

This language is EXTREMELY dangerous. NYT MUST NOT get away with this. Else, other companies will feel motivated to go after ANY or even just game that is "similar enough". It could be their slow death.

This is 100% an attack on itself as the gaming world was always very derivative.

Good that does NOT cover mere ideas.

The sad and short-lived story of a homophobic troll on my Flags repository:

Act 1: The tells me they want to all people.
Act 2: Post gets deleted and the troll gets banned by before I even checked the repo.

The End.

That’s how it’s done. Don’t feed the trolls. I’d have deleted the post myself but was faster.

(How do I know the post existed? I got an e-mail notification before.)
