@fkamiah17 On a low-level most people know, that the Israel-Hamas conflict spells trouble on many levels. Some are more fact-dismissive due to it, others are preoccupied with problems at home.
IdK what to do about this at this time.

@fkamiah17 The oberservation, that this triggers some psychological mechanisim in many people - which leads them to go into cognitive dissonance about it.
There might be a word for this psychological phenomenon (it just came anti-meme to mind, but that is just a fantasy word from horror stories) - i'll research later.

    @unnameduser Fusion is allways 50years away at this point. We don't have the time or recources during .
    Latter goes for fission as well.

    The reason some people might want to re-enter are atomic bombs - which is something germany does not have the geopolitical position for atm. Unless we can buy them from dubios indian companies i guess.

    @unnameduser They share the specialized staff and the basic material uranium. Basically it's cheaper to do both than to do only nuclear bombs.

    @unnameduser I am claiming that is the reason some people want germany to re-enter nuclear fission.

    Currently nuclear fissions should not be supported by the government since it is less cost effective than wind and solar for the foreseeable future. Nuclear fission takes much energy & recources & time to produce energy while wind and solar take less input & are less complex & less dangerous & are not river reliant.

    @DanHakimi I know this is a brutal conflict - and truth dies first in a war if you call it that.

    One thing is i would like to have references and a plausible motive before i believe accusations. In this case the Al Jazeera articles could be a motive. Was the accusation independantly verified though?

    @SuperSpaceFan Yea, i saw that earlier as well. Usually recombinants are not that relevant though, so far only 'deltacron' and XBB were relevant imo (of the designated recombinants). In this case that XBB.1.16 strain was alredy quite outdated - a DV or HK or EG recombinant would be a more immediate risk.

    Foolishly I did not expect the deluge of "COP28 was a roaring success" articles that have now appeared.
    All of them filled with caveats and mitigating factors on why, according to their oh-so learned writer, not excluding fossil fuels from the future, is actually a huge win for mankind

    @ronanmcd It seems like, judging in this case, the political participants must absolutely claim success. That non-binding clauses are nothing is irrelevant.

    Maybe most political conferences are like this: more of a exclusive theme-club than a workgroup.

    I mean, the sic-fi ideas for robots are horribly misunderstood:

    • Per Isaac asimov the 'laws of robotics' don't work.
    • battle drones are small (unless its a retrofitted drone).
    • Its never going to be a 'AI rebellion' similar to a human rebellion.
