@jackyan Showerthoughts: I think often about how bad xml is and http too. If you rendered the entire page, you wouldn't be able to block ads - like its just one big image right? Remember the image masks where you'd define hotspots to click back in the day? rust, webassembly, shenaningans, feels a bit like reinventing flash from first principles... aaaanyway...

@rbreich Why do we pretend that employees pay tax anyway? It never hits your bank account. I don't think the rate is the problem. It is that most big companies -and not just people like Donald Trump- get to dodge it for decades and don't pay a fraction. If you had a reasonable flat non-deductible rate on gross it would be fairer. Also vary by category e.g. tax fossil fuels out of existence instead of checks notes subsidizing them wtf.

@jackyan Sadly people don't vote Libs in parliamentary elections in UK. Even though they were the only anti-Brexit party, they still garner a fraction of the vote which means nowhere in FPP system. They are perceived as a wasted vote, weak, prevaricating, fuddy old sandal and socks brigade. They do nothing to dispel this. The electorate won't forget being stabbed in the back by them either.

@jackyan Apart from reneging on their promises, politically they are also the only party to stay put ideologically, more or less in the centre. Everyone else swung to the right, Labour passed them and became more right wing than them which was weird af. Half of Labour and half of the Tory candidates are basically where the Libs are but they like power too much so they keep fascist bedfellows.

@quixote There should be an immediate cessation of violence, IDF withdrawal. Lot's of countries in the UN have volunteered strong opinions, South Africa for instance, so I think that these volunteers should send a few thousand blue helmets each to take over security for aid convoys, occupy the rest of Gaza, apprehend any terrorists that abide there still, prevent further attacks being launched (if only to avoid being caught in crossfire from reply barrage).

During the Q&A at 41 minutes in, an older gentleman asks two very good questions, a soft-ball and a kicker. Interesting to me that Jensen's accent changes ever so slightly when he answers. He makes a culturally grounded joke. It is reasonable to think that he might have answered differently say, had a female student had asked the same question. An LLM will not do this, well not out of the box anyway.

@QasimRashid Such honesty. It rings hollow from tankie protestors when they don't condemn actual genocide and roll out all the old tropes - to be fair probably not even realizing that they are anti-Semitic they've been peddled with little rebuttal for so long.

I am glad they are protesting though - what is happening is very wrong, war crimes and fundamentally bad for Israel and for everyone (except Russia and Iran, which of course was the whole point it all).

    Europe’s naivety must stop. While we limit Ukraine’s use of our weapons on Russian territory, Russia is completing an airfield just 75 km north of the Ukraine border, near Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv.

    This means, transport plane after transport plane can deliver Russian soldiers and equipment needed to destroy a city of 1.4 million people — just a short drive away.

    You do not fight a cancer by discussing if chemotherapy is an escallation.
