Honestly every Republican should be presumed to be a sex pest until proven otherwise, just baseline; there’s something seriously off about deliberately choosing to affiliate with that level of weird controlling sex obsession.

The first step on the road to tyranny and oppression is the suspension of the rule of law. Don't think, once tyranny is in place, the law will protect you. It will only protect those in power.

I've run my Mastodon server from 2017 or 18. In that time, until a few days ago, I had received fewer than 20 reports.

In the last few days, that number has reached nearly 200.

The spam problem seems like a major engineering shortcoming.

Are sitcoms unrealistic because they depict people having a lot of time in the day to do things besides working, sleeping, and choring?

Or are they realistic because their runtime is less than 30 minutes, approximately the amount of time most people have remaining after working, sleeping, and choring?

My spouse got a bite on her hand while working in the garden a few days ago. After 2 days, the spot had become swollen and a purple spot formed at the bite location, so she went to the doctor.

Brown recluse bite.

Now she's on antibiotics, got a tetanus shot, and has a cream to apply.

Wear gloves when working in the garden, folks.

Hey, Fedi admins, go right now and check to make sure that you have caps/limits set on your Object Storage provider so they just stop serving you images instead of charging you $3,000 because some random person in Europe decided to scrape your instance.

Re: https://cloudisland.nz/@aurynn/111937646419975910

This is a really tragic tale (I hope they can get the charge reversed) but right at this moment I want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

@amin I don't use object storage. It's directly on the compute host. Flat fee vps. Small instance. Am I doing something wrong?

Fediverse! I’ve been building a bridge to Bluesky, and they’re turning on federation soon, which means my bridge will be available soon too. You’ll be able to follow people on Bluesky from here in the fediverse, and vice versa.

Bluesky is a broad network with lots of worthwhile people and conversations! I hope you’ll give it a chance. Only fully public content is bridged, not followers-only or otherwise private posts or profiles. Still, if you want to opt out, I understand. Feel free to DM me at @snarfed (different account than this one), email me, file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.

A number of us have thought about this for a while now, we’re committed to making it work well for everyone, and we’re very open to feedback. Thanks for listening. Feel free to share broadly.

One of my classes this semester is A+ Exam Prep for Computer Hardware Configuration and Support. I can only describe my feelings about this class as visceral. My mind instinctively recoils from doing so much of this. The most prevalent thought in my head the entire time I'm working on it is, "How can I get out of this?" Only 4 more weeks and I'm done with this one.

And you wonder why there's such a push for long mandatory minimum sentences and other "tough on crime" policies -- it's to provide slave workers

I got a Nokia 2780 Flip phone as our "home phone" for around the house and for my kid to bring with him in situations where we might be separated. It's very satisfying to use! Physical buttons, T9 texting, and it even has a rudimentary Google Maps app. 3 days of battery life, to boot. It runs KaiOS. Great call quality, signal strength, and that pleasant Nokia ringtone.
