    The astonishing organizational power of taking everything on your computer Desktop, putting it in a new folder named “To File” and never looking at anything in that folder ever again.

    tuckerteague,
    @tuckerteague@mastodon.social avatar

    @kjhealy I just recently found an old external hard drive with many files and folders of all kinds of stuff on it going back to 2006 and several folders/subfolders on it with names like: "files to sort"

    This is the first time I've seen those folders in at least a dozen years.

    One of the most annoying things about being an English-language content creator are the Americans who insist that everything must be about them.

    I can make a video that never mentions the US once, and I will get hundreds of responses about the US.

    I will get people claiming that I'm wrong because of some issue unique to the US.

    I will get Americans telling me that I have a moral responsibility to help them fix their cities, despite the fact that I'm not American and I don't live there.

    52 years ago today on March 17 1972, my favorite movie 'Pink Flamingos' had its premiere at the campus of the University of Baltimore. It's quite a film.

    I don't recommend you watch this movie unless you're prepared for some weird and gross stuff. But I grew up in Maryland and it sure does sum up Baltimore in a beautiful and bizarre way.

    I love John Waters flicks, and this one's my favorite forever.

    “Listen, I’ve got something very obvious to tell you. You’re not allowed to give up. If they decide to kill me, it means that we are incredibly strong. We need to utilize this power, to not give up, to remember that we are a huge power, that is being repressed by these bad dudes. We don’t realize how strong we actually are. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. So don’t be inactive.”

    The trailer for the new Avatar: The Last Airbender show looks decent, but even if the show turns out to be a faithful recreation of the original I'm not sure what for? The original is already perfect. It's still there. Why does it have to be recreated again?

    @nixCraft @DocCarms I bought a Macintosh in 1988 with my student discount. I couldn’t afford a printer, so I would take my floppy disk to the campus computer center to print my papers. Since then I’ve had a couple MacBooks and several PCs. Now I’m running Linux on a Thinkpad.

    A #Cdrama that most Chinese folks around the world would know would be Journey to the West (1986).

    My dad would tape every episode into VHS and us kids would replay the drama over and over again. It was a sad day when the VHS tapes ended up having mold growing in them, rendering them unwatchable.

    Journey to the West is a “shen mo” - a Chinese fantasy genre that revolves around Chinese mythological characters.

    @liztai I've heard of the novel of Journey to the West, and I've wanted to read it. I never heard of the 1986 tv series. I just found it and watched a few minutes. I can totally see how a kid in 80's/early 90's would love it.
