@arstechnica This is potentially points to a good use of AI in the other direction. Focusing it on issues like reducing energy consumption and sourcing foods locally wouldn't limit human creativity and could help solve problems.
#WritersCoffeeClub 18: Do you suffer for your art? Backaches, headaches, writers' cramps, etc.?
Eye fatigue mostly, but only when staying up late night after night. Weekend breaks help, as do walks in the park. I can suffer mild depression if I'm not working on my WIP. I can get down on myself for not dedicating time to my creative projects.
"Scabies is not the only disease that appears to be making a comeback in Rishi Sunak’s Britain. In 2022, 423 patients were admitted to English hospitals with rickets, a disease caused by lack of sunlight and inadequate levels of vitamin D. The same year, 188 people were treated for scurvy, a condition caused by not eating enough fresh fruit and vegetables, leading to a deficiency in vitamin C."

• If you work for Facebook, you are a part of the Trump re-election campaign. You are not only hanging out in the Nazi bar, you are STAFF at the Nazi Bar.
• Here's yet another article telling me that the Threads developers seem to be "acting in good faith", "sincere", and "very fine people".

It's almost like these platforms start with the goal of pleasing users until they can monetize them, then they have the goal of pleasing advertisers and investors. Many of whom are right-wing.
@arstechnica
We'll see how this shakes out in the next few years once reporters can look at the data. What corporations report as the issue and what independent investigators find don't always match.
“Special counsel #JackSmith, who is overseeing the prosecution of #Trump in two federal cases, was the target of an attempted swatting at his Maryland residence on Christmas Day.
According to two law enforcement sources, someone called 911 and said that Smith had shot his wife at the address where Smith lives.”
Despite all the histories we’ve heard, I think it’s entirely plausible that @Gargron developed Mastodon because he needed a more efficient way of sharing cat pics.
The centralized, walled garden model naturally leads to building everything into one product, vertically integrating all features in the name of user and partner lock in. Elon's everything app is a predictable progression of this thinking.
Meanwhile the decentralized model naturally leads to many specialized products connected together to satisfy far more use cases than any one product could ever do.
It's like the web vs. AOL all over again and my money is on the web.
@lisamelton It was meant as more of cat joke. I tell people this thing should be called Meowstodon because it's just a PR operation run by cats. The Mastodon mascot is actually 700 cats in an elephant costume.
