Decided to celebrate my new job by getting a Monstera adansonii. Not 100% sure where I can get one, if I can find one local or if I'll have to order. (sadly while the US seems to have a bustling cutting trade on etsy, Canada just... doesn't?)
@MsHearthWitch I've only rebloomed an orchid once, in 5 years with 2 plants 🤣 wishful thinking or what! I can cope with watering, just about, and orchids only need once every couple of weeks. They are all by the kettle so it's something to do while water is heating.
@EdibleFuchsia My problem is that I kind of lose interest in them when they aren't blooming, LOL
Like without the flowers, my brain sees them as just a few really boring leaves and doesn't care anymore. Ooops.
Mostly I think I've settled on viewing orchids like buying a bouquet of flowers. Beautiful blooms while they last, and then that's probably it for the plant, hehe
Another birdie for #FossilFriday . This time, #Cratoavis cearensis, landing on the fertile stems of a Welwitschiostrobus murili plant, with Welwitschiophyllum brasiliense leaves in the background. This was a tiny bird, less than 15cm long, including its tail streamers. #paleobotany#paleoart#plants
decided to grow some fancy morning glories this year. (morning glories are sensitive to root damage, so some people do not recommend transplanting them. however, i have done so for a few years in a row, & had no issues.)
you can sow MGs directly in the ground and they still do well. however, i like earlier blooms, and the fancy varieties tend to get out-competed by the plain purple ones if you don't give them a head start.
@plants these are the varieties: 'Flying Saucers' and 'Crimson Rambler.' (the ordinary purple ones will come up on their own every year.)
btw morning glories are a 10/10 kids' gardening project. the seeds are big, they have a high germination (success) rate, and they start pushing out of the soil in only a few days. just be aware that the seeds & plants are poisonous, so the kiddos should be old enough not to try & snack on them.

I am constantly amazed when I'm browsing eBay, to see #plants are available from Indonesia for Australian customers. You cannot #import plants into #Australia unless you're prepared to send them to Quarantine for weeks first, which is costly. Sellers will tell you that the plants come with a certificate, but this is in no way enough. If caught, the plant will be confiscated and the buyer could end up in a lot of legal trouble. If the plant does make it though then pests from other Countries could wind up here. Relax, Don't do it!

@firephoto These are very different than the ones I have. I have 3 different purple lilies so far. I don't have your variety seen here - yet. They'd be a nice addition to my other purples.
