I’ve heard somewhere that democracy dies in darkness.
“In a series of paragraphs that are up there as being among the most shocking I have read in my journalistic career, the Post acknowledged on Saturday — dropped in the middle of the holiday weekend, more than a week after the Times’s report — that they had known about the flag since at least January 20, 2021, and had not revealed knowledge of it until May 25, 2024.”
“Under Ofcom rules, Conservative MPs Jacob Rees-Mogg and Esther McVey, as well as former Tory deputy chairman-turned Reform MP Lee Anderson, are unable to continue in their presenting roles while they seek re-election”
"Cox said that Emu can make “really amazing quality images” thanks to “Instagram being the data set that was used to train it” which he described as “one of the great repositories of incredible imagery.”"
This is a great reason for people to switch over to alternatives like #Pixelfed
In her paper “White Sexual Imperalism: A Theory of Asian Feminist Jurisprudence,” Sunny Woan, graduate of #SantaClaraLawSchool, delineates how #imperalism, #media & #sexism have resulted in #AsianWomen functioning as “objects for western consumption and the satisfaction of western desires.” Subsequent to their #objectification is the overarching conception of Asian women as submissive, subservient & inherently hypersexual
"Americans are woefully ill-informed. That’s the only conclusion one can reach from a bunch of new polls that are chronicled in the links section below.
According to a new Harris poll for the Guardian, 55% of respondents think the economy is shrinking, 56% think the U.S. is in a recession, 49% believe the S&P 500 stock market index is down for the year, and 49% believe that unemployment is at a 50 year high."
"This data indicates that it’s very possible Biden could lose in November because people’s perceptions about the economy are flat out incorrect and many voters have little grasp of what is happening in our politics.
The media is almost certainly at fault for the misperceptions about the economy."
Today is #NewstodonFriday, a day to feature work from newsrooms that have an active presence in the #Fediverse. If you like what you see in the thread below, follow the profiles and boost their stories. If you're a journo or newsroom that we don't know about (or there's someone that should be on our radar), please comment below.
FWIW We’re all a bit disappointed in the decline of media in the U.S as to what’s covered and how. For those of us in the U.S. just know things suck more on a holiday weekend. They did so back in better times, but it’s worse now. So, use the chance to turn off and relax.
In AP's fact check of "fake news" this week, they highlighted that the ICC did not actually issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu. That was a little unclear to me on Monday, because of this headline from #UnitedPressInternational, which was on the front page of their site Monday:
"ICC Issues Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, 3 Hamas Leaders"

One protester who attended T**** #Bronx rally said she observed "license plates from Tennessee, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, etc."
T****'s "groupies" follow him around the country to ensure he's never seen before a tiny crowd to make it look like he's more popular than he really is.
The #Media's playing a dangerous game allowing this myth to perpetuate. It's why they can't believe it when he loses by huge numbers, and "the only explanation is that the election must have been stolen".
