So cool, here is a little video of me unboxing this 30 year old, new old stock AT&T 5200 cordless phone from 1992-93 or so. The instructions say it needs to sit on the charger for 10 hours, so going to just let his sit for at least that long. Normally new old stock like this can sell for a lot more but for some reason I was able to do a minimum bid on this of $16 and won it. Used phones of this vintage tend to be really nasty. Of course I'll be keeping the box and all the materials so it can be packaged away safely when not in use. New batteries won't be here for at least a week.

Image of the day is Dark Tower, a Washi W paper shot of the Tour Montparnasse. I wish there had been some dark clouds behind it, would have made it more ominous, but that's what I get from taking photos of Paris when I don't live there...

I did some battery-related DIY to revive my old analog Praktica SLR and documented the process: https://www.selfawaresoup.com/notes/2023/05/30/a-weird-battery/

Back home, unpacked. So, here's the thing that might get me back to analog photography: A Rolleiflex S66 medium format SLR released in 1966 that @jillpls had sitting in a closet since forever. This one was probably manufactured in the 70s, judging by the serial number.

It has some technical issues though: the mechanism seems stuck in the "released" position with the mirror flipped up and the film transport crank locked. I'll try to get it fixed and hopefully this beauty can have a second chance.

If anyone knows an address in Berlin where I can get it looked at by someone who knows this camera's mechanism well, that'd be much appreciated. I'd rather not try to fix this myself. Would be a shame to ruin this device by accident.

C'mon over and help me dig thru the stacks... It's time to take a break from the hot takes and shift into analog gear for a while.

Spinning vinyl from 7-10(pst)

I'm thinking easy-listening Exotica thru the dinner hour and then early electronica like Kraftwerk later on.

My buddy Stuart mailed me a of Mark Guiliana’s LP Mischief that he’d bought in at one of Mark’s shows.

It’s cool as hell.

But I no longer own a cassette deck!

Question: are the the kids playing these on cassette decks and in car stereos like we did?

Next an analog photo from Amsterdam took with my Zorki 4 camera (an old Soviet rangefinder) from 1966. 📷 Let's imagine that this photo doesn't have these few modern cars, then you could say that this photo looks like it was taken a few decades ago. Canals in Amsterdam are the most iconic places of this city, many calls this city the Venice of the north and I can confirm it's true! 🥰

What analog tech do you still use and love? For me it's pencils. I wrote about why in my latest newsletter. https://jenniferhoward.substack.com/p/analog-intelligence

Contemporary art met our really old camera. 📷 It's next an analog photo! I took this shot at The Moco Museum in Amsterdam. If you like contemporary art, I highly recommend checking it out and visiting! ☺️
