Extraordinary that there's virtually no coverage in western media of China's extraordinary expansion of its railway network, and no questions about why we can't or don't do the same

A post about my efforts in trying to find "balanced" information about the current US-China tensions and being exasperated by discussions around it, and how I feel the urge to self-censor lest I be labelled "pro-China". We were just having a normal conversation under the warm Adelaide sun when she said, “I hate Chinese people. Hate them.”

I stared at her, wondering if she realised that I am Chinese.

I rarely write about but I feel it’s important to describe the impact of rising on a “normie” member of the diaspora. It's this: Sheer, utter frustration and exasperation.

I wonder.

It's almost like the US government has entirely forgotten what got Pearl Harbor bombed. Well, maybe not, they just don't care.

Operation #lost camera.

My son found a camera when he was Magnet fishing on the Zaanse schans a year ago. Then I got sick and couldn´t do anything with this camera.

Its SD card contains photo's and video's of an Asian girl/woman who is doing a world tour.

She speaks Mandarin Chinese. And in the video she is on Marakech Airport. Thanks for the translations.

The next step is to find her.

RT is very much appreciated

One of the phrases that’s been popular in China this year according to this article: https://www.sixthtone.com/news/1014370

For more context, people in China have been assembling plain white bread sandwiches to try to understand how we live in this part of the world, and they are posting through it (the idea of eating anything cold or raw, especially a vegetable, is seen as especially disgusting in the Chinese world, with some exceptions)

The genuine confusion you feel when almost the entire world loves and you detest it to the depths of your very being. 😆 🙃
But that's par the course for me - I tend to dislike very popular dramas. Disliked Ashes of Love too. Two things are deal breakers for me: An infantile female lead & terrible acting.
When you have both together, well, that show doesn't stand a chance with me lol.

The National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan constatation^1 on US loss of competitiveness self-inflicted by the neoliberal ideological bias that free market will always choose optimal path:

> The People’s Republic of continued to subsidize at a massive scale both traditional industrial sectors, like steel, as well as key industries of the future, like clean energy, digital infrastructure, and advanced biotechnologies. America didn’t just lose manufacturing—we eroded our competitiveness in critical technologies that would define the future.

Was there anything preventing US from " subsidize at a massive scale" these sectors, apart from ideological choice? No, just like there's no physical principles preventing UK from electrifying its trains fleet whene everyone did that 30 years ago, rather than run diesel trains (!) well into 2020's. Except for maximizing their return on investment, which hampers new investments even when they're desperately needed.

Soviet ideological obsession on criminalization of any private trade (literally, see article 154 of the criminal code of the ) led to shortages of everything, including toilet paper and eventually collapse of the regime. The system wasn't flexible, because ideology is by definition rigid.^2

Free market is on the opposite end of the scale, but it doesn't guarantee immunity to ideological rigidity on its own — a truly free market also includes freedom to use subsidies when they make sense, which neoliberal ideology prevents.

I dared to try, Ubuntu Kylin.

I didn't like the default desktop, UKUI (Ubuntu Kylin User Interface). While I liked the coloring and style, the user menu was not organized (everyone in 1 long menu). The default greeter for log-in looked like a poor copy from Windows, if only for the virtual keyboard that takes over your display when you try to log in.
