My husband is presenting in an all-day virtual conference with other experts in the field, including Dr. Edward Hallowell, for an /ADHD audience.

He put his slide deck on Slides as required. Then technical glitches occurred (slides weren’t fully loading) during the test run. The IT person asked him if he was on a Mac (he is). According to the IT person, they have trouble with Mac users being able to run slideshows when there are multiple presenters.

It’s 2024. C’mon man. 🙄

When Bing, Microsoft’s search engine platform, went down early yesterday, it took down a number of services with it, including ChatGPT search, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo — all of which rely on the Bing API to operate.

With the majority of Google search alternatives taken out in one fell swoop, it highlighted the lack of competition that Google search truly has, and the implications that has on our online experience. Is there another way? @arstechnica has more.

☝️ Yes, the was not broken yesterday, only from and therefore these so-called alternatives, which apparently resist . You should expand your naive belief and behaviour via and/or search. You can find it by 'ing for the corresponding hashtags in .

I think the internet is officially broken.

It seems that Google is failing again with the first attempts of integrating AI into search or are we just seeing the terrible mistakes and is 98% of the experience great ?
In marketing/PR terms , things are not going well i think. For OpenAI it's easier they don't have a userbase with billions of users (Gmail, Search, Drive etc.).

If you are trying to your life, be aware that one of the unpleasant side effects is that a shit ton of people will not be able to receive from you. I've been on an email address handled by my shared server provider for like 15 years now, and I can attest that and are both pretty bad for blocking anything from a outside the big providers.

Since and aren't working as is down, instead of going to , perhaps check out https://searchengine.party/ instead and find an alternate engine.

To set a search engine as your default, visit the site and right click the URL bar, and select add. Then change your default in settings.

(Firefox will add it as an option in the default engines in settings. Chrome will open settings with it as an "inactive shortcut" which you can "make default" in the entry's menu.)

From Reddit, here’s a test for Google…

Go to Google search, type:

“which us presidents earned degrees from UW Madison”

No quotes. That’s a really really wrong answer. Anyone else see this?

This just unvetted source material? That’d be a red flag for their AI, yeah?

Imagine what an anti-abortion red state or a fascist Trump administration (or some other future evil administration) would do with features like 's "recording everything you do on your PC" and the and Microsoft plans to listen in on your private phone calls.

I don't give a damn if these firms claim the data is stored on the devices. Devices can be confiscated, stolen, or courts can order pretty much anything done with that data.

These firms are selling us all down the river with this stuff.

People, calm down!

I was triggered at first as well, but after giving it more thought, I agree with Redmond.

rightfully CANNOT blur or encrypt your passwords because doing so would require that Microsoft be a content moderator, returning your data to their Seattle mothership in order to do so.

That is a level of surveillance no one should be comfortable with.

Then again, you have given 20 years access to your email inbox, so...

Nothing to see here.

Removing content related to human rights at the request of the Russian government and not because it violates Google’s content policies marks a “new trend,” Agentstvo said, citing an unnamed cybersecurity expert.
