No one had bid on this beautiful instrument at a silent auction yesterday so my wife did and now we own a mountain dulcimer! Definitely didn’t have that on my bingo card this week. Apparently they’re super easy to play? #uexpectedInstruments#dulcimer#appalachia
Hello I'm Salix and am making a new account on this same instance. I am from the #shenandoah valley in #appalachia Virginia.
I am into all sorts of art, books, writing, music, TTRPGs, nature, and photography. I play the trumpet and am learning guitar, and I have a strong distaste for how much we rely on cars, and cars in general.
I'll probably post art, ideas and stuff on TTRPGs, photos, and whatever else I feel like at the time.
For six years, a growing network of communities in #Appalachia have organized to use direct action to stop the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Massively behind schedule due to protests and lawsuits, the project was recently green-lit thanks to pro-fossil fuels Democrats like Joe Manchin and is now been fast tracked through the permit process by the Biden administration.
But with the campaign showing no signs of slowing down to stop the MVP, corporations are now filing SLAPP suits and injunctions against protesters, as legal avenues to stop the pipeline disappear.
In this written interview, we spoke with members of @stopthemvp about how they've managed to continue the struggle for six years, deal with ongoing repression, and about their upcoming 'days of action' later this month.
My latest "Looking Back on Genre History" segment is now available on Episode 722 of the #StarShipSofa#podcast. I discuss the work and legacy of #ManlyWadeWellman.
#Urbanists in #Lexington#Kentucky are invited to provide online public comment for a proposed Campus to Commons Trail, which aims to develop walking infrastructure around #UKY.
Turns out that I am not a Ride or Die Chick afterall....
Every Monday until the end of 2023, I am posting a meme that relates to what is happening at Ancestry Roads, #Appalachia, #Genealogy or for just a much needed #Laugh
Join the fun and post your own #Meme here on Mastodon.
Did you know that the #Cherokee expelled a mysterious race of people from #Appalachia?
Prior to the Cherokee removal, there, in Appalachia, may have lived a people with white skin who during certain #moon phases, couldn't see.
Pre-Columbian ruins in the area are said to be built by them.
They were eventually driven to extinction by the natives.
Were they early #Europeans? Madoc, a figure from #Welsh#folklore perhaps? Just blue-eyed people? People with good night vision?
