I have an otherwise completely static site that is assembled out of parts using Apache mod_include. There's no run-time logic to the assembly, it could all be pre-generated without any effect.
So I'd like to #askfedi what the simplest solution to replacing this with a static site generator #SSG is. Everything I'm finding is either a billion lines of javascript (eleventy, astro, etc.) or rather opinionated (hugo, jekyll), as far as I can tell. Is there a simpler preprocessor out there?
I want to make an illustration series of characters of various cultures (including indigenous groups) in the Pokémon artstyle.
Problem is, I do not know of a good database that has attire pictures and a simple explaination of their meaning, and Wikipedia is sometimes too complex for me to use (do not want to get lost and make mistakes)
so I ask you, if you feel like it - please feel free to share your culture's wear and other information (hairstyle, if outfit affects hierarchy position and other things you find important)
I will try making more illustrations, I hope you will enjoy them soon :boogie:
Running a debian sid install I've encountered a funny issue.
The Vulkan will not work unless I sudo it or create a new terminal with my user name.
Makes it even weirder when Steam games work normally.
Has anyone else encountered the issue?
Nvidia GPU btw #Linux#AskFedi
Anyone who knew me as a kid might not believe it, but I really take care of my teeth and have done for many years with increasing commitment! But like many others, I've been avoiding basic dental checkups mostly because in my case I'm not entirely convinced my particular dentist will implement #Covid safety precautions. Dental treatment is one of those maskless inevitabilities where the least they can do is mask up as staff and use air filtration. I'm not assured this is the case at my default dental practice. If anyone in #Sheffield, #SouthYorkshire or further afield in #NorthernEngland are aware of any #dentists that implement cautionary measures, do let me know. As an NHS patient, I'm even begrudgingly willing to pay for private care if I can afford it in order to avoid getting Covid. Thanks! #AskFedi#Covid19#CovidIsNotOver
#askfedi Hi, I haven't followed the progress for a while, which OSes are currently usable on #pinephone (basic call/SMS, terminal, GPS, not crashing too much)? Is #waydroid usable (in particular for #OSMAnd)? Thanks!
Does anyone know a command line tool for creating appointments in a nextcloud calendar? I'm tired of these click orgies. I want my own workflow with my own optimizations. :
Here's a #Mastodon question that comes up a lot for me. I want to follow a friend, colleague, or organization. I look them up and find they have four Mastodon accounts. None has made any posts, followed any users, or attracted any followers. Should I follow all four? None? The one most recently created? If I follow one or more, and a different one becomes active, will I ever learn about it through my timelines?
Today, one of my fountain pens broke.
Fortunately a relatively cheap one. However, I do now kinda need a new one.
I had a Stabilo BeCrazy..
I want something of €15,- at most. Preferably around 10 or less.
I did like the robust feeling of the Stabilo nib.
I don't want a pen that cannot use standard cartridges, or it should be possible to have a pen and converter together for 15 euro or less...
What is a good pen?
Any suggestions?
Anyone have good open source recommendations for novel writing / outlining software? I'm currently using Novlr and I really like it, but the fact that it's proprietary (although possibly cooperatively owned? It feels sort of sketch but I also want to assume good faith) is bothering me enough that I think I need to switch. Looking for software specifically for this, not generic editors (no LibreOffice, LaTeX, Vim, etc.). Thanks!
Anyone happen to know of any clever TOTP clients that someone without a smartphone could use? Like a handheld TOTP device if such a thing exists? #askFedi
Wow #Fediverse, thanks for the help! I am genuinely surprised at how close the results were. It looks like the recommendation is to try out the #Threadiverse (#Kbin and / or #Lemmy) first - but only by 1.8% over #Peertube! Y'all must know that I've been getting frustrated with #Reddit lately. I also appreciate the recommendations for other things to explore.
Now the question is Kbin or Lemmy? Or both? (any thoughts?)
I'm really interested in moving a podcast from Spreaker to Castopod, though I have no interest in self-hosting it at this time. Does anyone have any insight into what the pros and cons might be for such a move? Thanks in advance! #AskMastodon#AskFedi#Fediverse#Castopod#Spreaker#podcast#podcasting
Portable monitors the kind you attach to laptop, phone (mostly Samsung Galaxy, which I have). I wonder what ppl's experience/opinions are.
Amazon is littered w such monitors for $100-$300, depending on day, features. Eg https://a.co/d/eysO0gy
I've been thinking of buying one for travel and for my wife's use at home, but I'm not sure how well they work: Which usage modes does it (not) work well? What to watch for if buying?
I have ~13 000 individual timestamped JSON files, I would like to be able to plot all the numerical values and scrub through them to figure out what they represent (semi-documented solar inverter)
What's the best system for this? Most timeseries databases don't seem to handle the import of "old"/non-live data well
Hi Fedi! What's a good self-hosted electronic cookbook? (Or cloud, if you prefer.) I've been using Nextcloud Cookbook since I can easily use my own photos but it's ehhh.
Preferred features include:
notes section for extra info
easily sharing recipe links for guest access
ability to paste a list of ingredients to then organize and edit
ability to paste a list of steps to then organize
ability to import recipes from URLs
options for printing, eg turning on/off images/notes
