#ClimateChange is real, and a real worry is that once they finally recognize it and stop their denial, orthodox religionists, especially evangelicals, are going to insist it is ‘god’s will’, a sign of the end of times, and we should therefore accept and celebrate it. I expect they will stand in the way of those who seek to mitigate it, plan for the changes it will certainly bring, and legislate regulations designed to minimize the damage. Hell no, they’ll be all ‘bring it on, we’re on our way to heaven’. That’s going to be a huge problem for the rest of us, the rational, science-based ones who take this shit seriously. There can be no actual certainty about whether it is too late. Things are indeed not great, but we must always behave as if there is a chance.
Worse than humanity being done in by Climate would be wrongly diagnosing a winnable situation as "game over" and having civilization get wiped out by self-fulfilling defeatism.
