Oct 6 EWE: UK — The UK government has “misrepresented” the Climate Change Committee (CCC) by wrongly claiming it said we would need a quarter of our energy to come from fossil fuels by 2050, scientists have said. “This is the CCC’s model, and one would have expected the government to have consulted the committee about the figure before circulating it. It is another example of the government failing to consult the experts.” https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/oct/06/ministers-misrepresented-uk-climate-advisory-body-say-scientists

When climate scientists are alarmed by what they see — when they warn that we are facing a “worst-case scenario” and when they describe climate change impacts as “mind-blowing” — it’s time for all of us to be alarmed as well, and to urge our leaders to take immediate action.

"Antarctica may have entered ‘new regime’ of low sea ice as global warming ramps up"

These scientists know we are in a climate emergency. So why aren’t our so-called leaders doing anything about it?

" brothers fuel media with millions of dollars - Farris and Dan Wilks’ deep pockets fund denialism education, conservative politicians and pro- projects

Two billionaire Texas brothers whose fortunes derive from oil and gas fracking have pumped millions of dollars into rightwing media outfits that have promoted climate-crisis denialism and sent more big checks to back an array of evangelical projects and conservative Texas politicians.

The fracking billionaires Farris and Dan Wilks have each doled out millions of dollars through separate foundations over the last decade to a number of high-profile conservative and religious groups including the Heritage Foundation, Family Research Council and Focus on the Family.

“Thanks to their incredible wealth and largesse, the country as well as the [Republican] party are now feeling the effects of their aggressive brand of religiously-charged political activism,” said Darren Dochuk, a history professor at the University of Notre Dame and author of Anointed with Oil."

is real, and a real worry is that once they finally recognize it and stop their denial, orthodox religionists, especially evangelicals, are going to insist it is ‘god’s will’, a sign of the end of times, and we should therefore accept and celebrate it. I expect they will stand in the way of those who seek to mitigate it, plan for the changes it will certainly bring, and legislate regulations designed to minimize the damage. Hell no, they’ll be all ‘bring it on, we’re on our way to heaven’. That’s going to be a huge problem for the rest of us, the rational, science-based ones who take this shit seriously. I’m not kidding here, we need to have strategies in place to deal with those who would stand in the way of solutions and the cultural changes necessary to avoid a worsening .

"Far-right outsider takes shock lead in Argentinian primary elections - Javier Milei, an admirer of Donald Trump, thinks the climate crisis is a lie and wants sale of human organs to be legalised

"The far-right populist Javier Milei rocked Argentina’s political establishment on Sunday by emerging as the leader in primary elections to choose presidential candidates for the October general election.

Milei, an admirer of the former US president Donald Trump, says Argentina’s central bank should be abolished, thinks the climate crisis is a lie, characterises sex education as a ploy to destroy the family, believes the sale of human organs should be legal and wants to make it easier to own handguns.

Votes were still being counted late on Sunday but analysts agreed that the upstart candidate, who gained notoriety – and a rockstar-like following – by angrily ranting against the “political caste”, did much better than expected and is a real contender for the presidency.

With about 92% of polling locations reporting, Milei had about 30% of the total vote, according to official results. The candidates in the main opposition coalition, United for Change, were at 28% and the current governing coalition, Union for the Homeland, had 27%."

All of the people telling you "its too late" for climate ALL work for the oil companies, all of them.

People are choking your grandmother on the ground, many hands on her throat, it is not to late to get them off your grandmother.

A child is almost unconscious in the back seat of a car in the parking lot, doors locked, windows up. Somebody is standing there saying its too late to save her. Dont argue. Break the glass.
Save the child.

Break the glasss is building sun and wind

kentpitman,

There can be no actual certainty about whether it is too late. Things are indeed not great, but we must always behave as if there is a chance.

Worse than humanity being done in by Climate would be wrongly diagnosing a winnable situation as "game over" and having civilization get wiped out by self-fulfilling defeatism.
