Do you want to take a random sample of your data in R?

Here are some examples of how you can use sample():

✔ Generate a random permutation of the elements of a vector.
✔ Select a random subset of a dataset.
✔ Generate a random sample of data for testing purposes.
✔ Create a bootstrap sample.

Millions of Americans’ personal exposed in global hack

People's with state ID's (like driver's licenses) in Oregon and Louisiana data has been leaked/breached.

MOVEit (CVE-2023-34362) SQL injection (and privilege escalation - CVE-2023-35708) continue to be exploited. There will be more high profile victims, almost certainly.

(OPM is also affected.)

"Science only treats nature as a set of objects, and as such will never be able to embrace the real in its entirety (which, as we have said, includes the objects, but also what renders them to be as objects)."

from Martin 's lecture "Science and Meditation", published in Essays and Lectures (in 1954), summarised by Etienne Klein https://etienneklein.fr/conferences-de-martin-heidegger/

estelle,

Françoise : "We must ask ourselves what constitutes the essence of theoretical science itself. shows in his lecture [of 1919] that the experience of the "thing", of what we call "reality", presupposes the objectification of life and a devitalisation of the living experience, in the sense of an eradication of the interpretation immediately given to the environment. The result of this process of devitalisation and disinterpretation is nothing other than the real in the form of the (Gegebenheit) which is in fact a false immediacy, a theoretical construct."

Would it be possible to build an application that harvests data from local timelines from various instances to add to trainingsdata for AI foundation models? Or is the fediverse to small to be interesting for that?

I am incredibly frustrated and fed up with CurseForge and everything associated with it.

Recently, I decided to take action by submitting a ticket on the Twitch website, requesting the removal of my data from CurseForge. This was prompted by the CurseForge website, which explicitly instructed me to address this matter through Twitch. However, to my dismay, Twitch informed me that CurseForge was acquired by Fandom/Wikia in 2019 and advised me to reach out to them for data removal. Trusting their guidance, I promptly wrote an email to Fandom, only to be met with their denial of ownership or management of CurseForge. They redirected me back to the very same page on CurseForge that initially directed me to Twitch for data management.

This infuriating situation highlights precisely why we need the implementation and enforcement of GDPR regulations. The contradictory information, lack of accountability, and the endless loop of redirection is exasperating and emphasizes the importance of protecting our data and privacy rights.

5/ I used to think extraction was the best way to take advantage of the 'paraphrase' method of bypassing copyright barriers. But for purposes of human reading, AI summaries are (will be, can be) much better. Extraction may still be better for pulling from articles or creating machine-readable .

First time tooting from #Tor :blobcatsunglasses:

I am trying to move as many of my casual browsing as possible to Tor to reduce my fingerprint. Not to "hide" but to become even more harder to track by nasty, disgusting #corporations.
Reading news, I feel like they became more shameless recently so I despise more their attempts to squeeze and monetize every bit of #data they touch. And I am willing to starve them of my data further than before.
If they are ready to break the laws and count EU GDPR fines as business costs I guess data are valuable. So why not keep this precious thing for myself? :blobcat_amused:

If some pages will block me, it may be signal for me they aren't respecting users and maybe I should stop visit them :blobCat_devil:

I don't want to make these disgusting entities richer and stronger. I don't want participate in this.
I am not "digital biomass" or "free data mine".
I despise what they did to the web.

Maybe I don't have do this for Mastodon, I personally know my admin :blobcatjoy: I am simply doing some innocent tests.

I've been thinking and reading a bit about data stewardship and the role of data stewards.

I like it. I really like it. I am pretty sure I would like to do it as a job.

But I have no idea how to "formally" prepare for it. Are there any data stewards in the academic setting that would like to chat?

Please.
Pretty please.

How about this, STOP using Social Security Numbers for financial data.

How about stop storing personal data about people?

How about the right to be forgotten?

Why is this allowed to continue?

What's the easiest, least painful way to archive your reddit account before deleting it?

I sent a GDPR data request to reddit days ago but reddit says it can take "up to 30 days" and I have yet to receive my download link. The API is shutting down soon and I really just want to archive my personal data before I purge the account. Is there an easy way to do this?
