After a long long hiatus, I'm trying to finally get back a bit into #KDE / #KDEPlasma development a bit.
Started by tackling with a minor nuisance I had with @kasts, which didn't display the URL of a link so far when hovering it.
Once https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kasts/-/merge_requests/186 is merged, that should be a thing of the past.
This implementation is 90% blatantly copied from @neochat - that's the power of #OpenSource 😊
In the taskbar, by the clock, click on a WiFi of your choice and enter you password.
For example, mine was called 01_localhost and the password was Hi_0007
Go to System Settings
Go to Wi-Fi & Networking
Select (highlight) you listed Wi-Fi
On the General Information tab, check All user may connect to this network. Changed Metered to NO. On the Wi-Fi tab, change MTU to 1408. On Wi-Fi Security tab, change to WPA3 Personal. On the IPv6 tab, disable. Now click, Apply.
1st, notice you can NOT click on the export selected connection.
2nd, if you reboot, you will NOT be connected. Notice in System Settings (KDE) to connect.
3rd, if you click the + and manually add the Wi-Fi, still no option to connect.
4th, if you connect using the icon in your taskbar, by the clock (again), you will connect and a new copy of your Wi-Fi will be listed in System Setting each time you do this (after reboot). - You never reboot with a working connection and need to enter your password each time.
There's a really exciting #Atomic#Linux#KDEPlasma project i like, & thought to follow here in the fediverse. I was going to add it, #Aurora, getaurora.dev/, to my large list of #followedhashtags but unfortunately atm my timing is a little poor. Bloody physics, astronomy, sun 😜
This is wonderful news but seeing the list of patrons, why does #Valve not join the sponsorship programme though? - I know (or I think at least) that they often/occasionally sponsor #KDE (as an org, or devs) to do some work for them, and I'm not denying that they contribute a lot through funds/code to #FOSS/#Linux, but seeing that the #SteamDeck comes shipped with #KDEPlasma (which I still think is a really smart decision) and since Plasma is a huge part of the Steam Deck (literally half of the software exp), it'd be great to see Valve commit to a recurring sponsorship programme to the KDE folks.
They certainly have the money for it, surely. I hope this will be true someday.
Hi all. Hoping there are some #blind#linux users out there that can help me out. I'm using an old computer, not the one I mentioned in my previous posts, but a different one, and #Orca isn't speaking. I originally installed #Ubuntu Mate, but Orca was freezing a lot, so I switched my #DesktopEnvironment to #KDEPlasma. It seemed like a lot of things were inaccessible, though, so I decided to try #Gnome. I installed Gnome, chose GDM as the display manager, and restarted the computer. Now, Orca works on the login screen but nowhere else. It seems to be running, and when I run "orca --replace" in the terminal, I get an error about something only working with X11. I've been able to tell that by scanning the screen with #SeeingAI on my #iPhone. I need to get Orca up and running again so I can use my computer. What's the best way to do this, preferably without sighted help, as my mom and stepdad aren't good with #technology. #accessibility#tech@mastoblind@main
An "old school" Linux user, the same user who will try to get you, a Windows user, to try to use the terminal for everything, comparable to trying to get you to use Microsoft PowerShell for everything, will tell you Gnome is this wonderful graphical user interface (GUI).
You want KDE Plasma. Trust me. Most of the basic settings and point and click functions, you're seeking, are not going to be in Gnome by default, out of the box. Can it be customized and included with some effort? Sure, anything can be changed with some effort. But as a newbie, I'm assuming the word "effortless" is something you may favor a little more.
Nice thing about #KDE#KDEPlasma: if you rename a file, and try to use the name of a file that already exists, the file manager asks if you want to replace that file.
Which, yes, is exactly what I want. Most file managers won't let me do that, but this one will.
OK, I hate to say it, as much as I love Plasma, but my first impressions of KDE Plasma 6 is quite disappointing. Do you know how supermarkets rearrange everything once in a while and you can't find shit because nothing is where it's supposed to be and you're just pissed because you see zero benefits except a giant waste of your time. That's how I feel. I spend half an hour searching for one of my favorite features ...
Gestern kam bei mir das Update für KDE Plasma 6.0 Ich war bisher immer auf X11 unterwegs und hab mir heute gedacht, dass es tatsächlich einmal an der Zeit wäre Wayland auszuprobieren. Zumal es offenbar Fehler gibt, die mir bisher nur unter X11 aufgefallen sind. Gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, was ich da im Moment sehe. Läuft alles schön flüssig.
Mal ein herzliches Danke an die Entwickler:innen, die an den zahlreichen Komponenten von Linux arbeiten.
Some widgets do not work anymore (thermal monitor & an older weather widget). That was expected.
Some settings were reset.
Took me a while until I figured out, that I had 'Breeze dark' for all design styles but the colors in 'Breeze classic'.
I deactivated shadows again but need to find some more animations.
Fixed a thin line around windows by changing the Breeze window decorations.
KDE Plasma 6 released alongside Frameworks 6 and Gear 24.02 with partial support for HDR, new overview effect, floating panel and new panel settings, new default settings, refreshed Breeze theme experience, reorganized settings app, KWin cube effect
Jakby ktoś wpadł na pomysł aktualizacji systemu KDE Neon (pkcon), to się wstrzymajcie.
Niestety, ale wszystkie widgety które doinstalowałem są niekompatybilne z nowa wersja i dużo miesza. Na obecną chwilę, muzę wywalić cały panel z menu Start i resztą widgetów, bo jest nieużywalny. Zauważyłem także, że dłużej się loguje. Podejrzewam, że to przez motyw, który dodałem.
Nie próbujcie także aktualizować, myśląc, że wszystko będzie dobrze do czasu restartu. Problemy zaczynają się już po instalacji, a przed restartem. Program Konsole się wywala, niektóre widgety zaczynają walić błędami.
@helpers For the past few days i've puzzled over the fact that my browser (#Floorp)) had stopped displaying #DesktopNotifications for my #Friendica account, despite me still having them enabled both in Floorp, & in #KDEPlasma. As Floorp had had an update several days ago, i began wondering if maybe the latest version might have broken its Notifications function. However today i eliminated that possibility by verifying that also my Vivaldi & #FirefoxNightly browsers no longer give me my Friendica DN [&, like Floorp, they certainly used to]. So then i began wondering if maybe @alfred might have recently upgraded their server version of Friendica, & that said putative version was buggy. I decided it would be judicious to take a quick look at my Friendica account Settings, before posting a question about that.
Whoa! Well, i found the problem... but i do not understand how/why. Many months ago soon after creating this account, i had adjusted all my Settings to suit my preferences, & ofc one of those was to enable Desktop Notifications [otherwise, for months, i'd not have been receiving DN in all three browsers, til recently]. However, now, that setting had been lost, ie, it had reverted to default, ie, disabled.
Wtf? 😮
Now that i've re-enabled it, happily i'm once more getting my Friendica DNs. 🥳🎉
But... how on earth had that setting become disabled recently? 🤯 🤷♀️
