The wife and I decided to go ahead and mow all 4 yards today since our next door neighbor was going down to mow his sisters yard(3 houses down). That way we get everything mowed, can do the weed eating and everything else before we go on vacation next week.

It was a bit hot, but not too terribly bad. Though it's only going to get much hotter over the coming months.

I asked a guy, who was tearing up a driveway a couple miles from my place, if I could have the busted "urbanite" for , as my site has NO rocks (unless they were brought here). I'm 72 and I really should find some helpers. Every piece gets picked up and set down at least 3 times before coming to rest, not to mention busting up the big piece and fine shaping the smaller ones. It adds up and my knees let me know they are not thrilled. Oh, well. I think it looks nice & I love the work. Keeps me exercised while wearing me down. Like Life.

Good protestors are like good weeds. Weeds are just plants that grow where someone doesn't want them to grow. Good weeds are hard to get rid of: deep roots with multiple stems, networked, distributed, able to reproduce when attacked, growing in the midst of cultivated plants, having pretty flowers that discourage less determined gardeners and win them time to seed, and above all relentless. They also break up the soil and bring nutrients up, benefiting others.

Just got done mowing three out of the four lawns that we normally mow. Temp was only 70F/21C so it wasn't too bad.

Glad to have it done and even more glad to be back inside where it's nice and cool and I can sit back and relax.

All four yards have been mowed, trimmed, swept and watered as needed.

It is now time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the afternoon and the evening!

Good morning and happy Sunday

It's the last day of the weekend, so let's all talk about what we have on the agenda for the day today.

I'll be mowing at least 3 out of the 4 lawns we normally mow, and very possibly all 4 of them depending on my one neighbor.

After that, it'll just be resting and relaxing as it's also going to be about 82F here today.

Good morning and happy Saturday to all of you here in the

It's the weekend so let's all discuss our plans for the day, the weekend and the upcoming holiday tomorrow for those that celebrate.

I will likely mow 3 out of the 4 lawns I mow all summer long. One doesn't need it yet. Other than that, it'll just be a weekend to rest and relax as much as possible.

Creeping plants - they have pretty wee blue & purple flowers - gorgeous addition for on/around rocky areas.

This might be a longshot, but does anyone have any referrals or suggestions for a residential / architecture company around the , ?

We're hoping to build a retaining wall to replace a steep slope and do some regrading of our yard.

Had to convince the landlord to turn OFF the automatic sprinklers (at least for 3 more weeks), since the yard here is still flooded... I attribute this to lack-of-connection to the natural cycle of things (it's been a record rainfall year here, and things are still muddy).

ai6yr,

My rule is: water when there are signs of trees/plants needing water, not automatically, adjusting as the weather demands. Typically that means ahead of Red Flag/heatwave warnings, or on hot hillsides; the rest of the trees mostly have to fend for themselves.

Mom & I were up at 4am. We both went to bed early & woke up before our ⏰️

We decided to make good use of our early wakeup. We changed our front yard . Used lots of large rocks, that Mom collected during our Sooke getaway last fall, to create a rocky mound & moved our large golden garden Buddha atop of it. We added extra around it.

I like how it turned out😊

Picked up a truck load of mulch and a truck load of top soil and refreshed each of them in our planters around the house.

Looks so much nicer that it's fresh and full. Some plants were already coming up in the planter in the back with the metal sunflower, but they will push through the new dirt.

Going to try and plant some new stuff in the round planter around the tree in the front.

This took us about 5 hours total.

Our back planter that we filled with fresh top soil.
A photo I took of the new black mulch that we put down to refresh the original mulch we put down 2 years ago.

What happens when you have compacted soil, no mulch, and no rain garden plus decomposed granite in your yard.

Midnight snow drift. A drift was forming across the sidewalk where the yucca plants slowed the strong winds (blowing left to right). The drift ended up being about 2 feet (50cm) deep.

I thought today you might like to see one of my outdoor creations in our back yard garden.

This is custom tilework designed & installed by me & my son Reuben. We have a back porch & I wanted to make it a relaxing place to look out over our garden, listen to music, or read a book.

That's hubby seated there, lol. In front of him is a retaining wall block porch length planter with blueberry bushes & strawberries.
