Times are tough for the & sectors... But, Ten-pin Bowling has actually seen revenues (& footfall) rise in the last couple of years.

While it is a classic case of a cheap(isn) family treat (when times are hard), its also a case of benefitting from sunk-costs.

Once built, blowing alleys' marginal/variable costs are low & so operators have been using that surplus to cross-subsidise their offer, thus resisting .

Its a good example of why works!

Dwell magazine's Alana Hope Levinson has written a thoughtful feature on the joy of "puttering" — relaxing by carrying out low-stakes household chores — and you can read it here. But we got distracted by the language used in the article, since, she claims, "puttering" can also be referred to as "piddling," and where we come from, you certainly don't go piddling around the house. What word do you use for the pastime of puttering?

[I want to believe that this Coloradan gets free lifelong ski passes for every mountain he maps]
“Odds are, if you've used a ski resort map in North America, you've seen the work of James Niehues, a now-legendary mapmaker.
Periodically, Niehues shares one of his maps sans-marking online to see if skiers can guess which resort he depicted…”

A lot of people over here in fedi use open street maps. Could both fedi software and open street maps work on being more inter-connected? Could than fedi posters help with adding reviews and descriptions to establishments and places? Could open street maps contribute map integrations and recreation discovery to the fediverse?
