Portugal decriminalised drugs in 2001 and subsequently treated drug abuse as a public health issue. Between 1999 and 2016 deaths from overdose fell by 92%.

If Westminster refuses to even consider this approach then future deaths are on their hands.

geeks especially ones. Anyone know how to make the scroll-handle more visible? I use dark mode because i'm photosensitive, but I'm having a really hard time seeing the black handle on a dark grey background, especially when you add in the reflections of ambient light sources on the screen.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as it's the one barrier holding a friend back from using Mastodon instead of Twitter.

I challenge anyone who's experience here is improved because of image, GIF, video, or audio descriptions to personally thank at least 3 people each week for doing them!
Reminding people that taking the time to do it is making a tangible positive impact and causing others to see the social benefits as well is a great way to encourage them.

Call me old-fashioned, but if a car kills people at ten times the rate of other cars,
the company covers up the data,
and the CEO lies to the public and says the cars are safer…

I think that CEO should go to jail on fraud charges.

“Yeah, plugins and services for checking accessibility are great, but have you ever observed a real person with a disability walk through your site or app? While compliance with accessibility checklists is essential, it doesn’t necessarily mean a pleasant experience. That’s why live sessions can give you lots of priceless insights.”

“Summary: Users who are blind or have low vision prefer dictation over typing with a keyboard whenever possible. Screen readers on touchscreen devices are restricted to a well-defined set of gestures which makes interaction more challenging than on computers.”

It's been a great learning experience putting this powerful tool through its paces. Along with a few dozen others, we're stress-testing the tech, identifying areas needing improvement, and engaging directly with BME staff to ensure "virtual volunteer" is a capable and reliable solution upon its release. I'll be sharing the occasional anecdote and likely asking for your thoughts on various scenarios.

Be My Eyes links and people seeking visual assistance and access to information with volunteers across the world through live video. Users can also receive more specialized support from companies like Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn. Earlier this year, BME began beta testing a "virtual volunteer" service powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4. The tool converts images to text, and allows users to engage with the AI to identify & interpret key elements in the photos

It is not the presence of the impairment, but it is the social and attitudinal barriers that are hindering our performance."

Q for / / folks / users: are any of these styles (in poll below) preferred as a way to add emphasis to words in plain text? Wondering which if any of these are communicated effectively while also not being irritating.

Please DO NOT vote based on visual aesthetic preference!!

Just confirmed with vet that my Iroh is or . He can see some things because he chases laser pointer. But I suspect he's been low-vision since birth. Lately he's been jumping for furniture that's no longer there (moved), which worried me, so went to the vet and had some level of blindness confirmed. Looking back, the signs have all been there.

Seeking on how to accommodate Iroh going forward, and make our home as accessible for him as possible.
