Will start a little series here about me browsing this Club Nintendo issue from July 1995 (Nintendo Power in the US). 📖

I explicitly bought this one recently because I have so fond childhood memories. It must have been one of the few I owned and therefore read endless times. I still remember so much of the content and now I'm excited to refresh these memories.

The cover shows Asterix & Obelix, a PAL exclusive game series. 🐗

I thinks it's unnecessary to ask whether you've played Doom 😁
But on which platform you played it first? 🕹️

Another Analogue question:

The Duo will have a CD drive, but I don't have any NEC stuff. Is it possible that FPGA cores will let you play PS1/Sega CD/Saturn stuff on it via the real disk?

Also how collectable are the games for the systems the Duo naturally supports? Thanks to ebay and COVID "Entrepreneurs" I know I have high prices ahead of me in any system but...

In 1994, our puzzle game Clockwiser was released for Amiga (OCS and AGA), CD32 console, MS-DOS and Windows 3.1.

This is the 4-channel music our composer Ramon Braumuller made for a 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 that was included on magazine cover disks.

The tune is 109 kilobytes, including digitized instruments.

Today I'm dropping my third (~1 min). It's about a game I'm sure everyone here played at least once in a lifetime. 🤼‍♂️

What are your thoughts on Street Fighter 2 on Game Boy? 🤔

Is it a good port considering the Game Boy's hardware? 👌

Or do you know even worse ports? 👎

Street Fighter II originally was released for arcades in 1991 and has been ported to numerous consoles and platforms. But did you know that even the Game Boy Classic got his own version of the most influential fighting game ever made? The Game Boy port was released in 1995 and had to be reduced in complexity due to the limited capabilities of the handheld. From the characters side Dhalsim, E. Honda, Vega and their home stages didn't make it into the game. Because the Game Boy only had two buttons, the strength of punches and kicks has to be determined by the duration of button presses and many of the character moves had to be simplified or completely removed. The game runs at less than ten frames per second and in the stages there are no moving background elements or destructible objects. But there are also positive aspects about the Game Boy version. The game offers large, recognizable character sprites and three different game modes. When playing the game on the Super Game Boy, the health bars can be colored and there are unique borders that follow the stage that you're fighting on. By Game Boy standards the game can be seen as an excellent conversion. But the numerous downgrades only made it a bad fallback option for those not having access to a home console or computer.

My column this week: It’s game over for floppy disks as they wink out of existence

I never did get on with tapes, but 5.25in floppies were the first taste of freedom in media for me.

i'm finally opening up boxes of software from my archive that haven't seen the light of day in 15-20 years. today, i found a program that has never been archived or probably seen in over 40 years.

i absolutely adore this dungeon mastering program for the TRS-80 that was distributed in ziplock bags in 1982

i can find only one mention of it on the web - the august 1982 issue of TRS-80 Rainbow magazine that advertises it for $19.95 + S&H

happily, i found the cassette, which has never been archived anywhere AFAIK. i am scanning in the printed documentation, along with making a recording of the tape.

The rear page of the game's cover, printed on tan-coloured stock. It describes the different programs included with the software: Rooms I - "This displays 99 different rooms on the screen in hi-res graphics." Character Generation: With this your color computer will make the tedious job of rolling up new characters for players and non-players a breeze The Dungeon: A completely mapped and keyed two level dungeon designed for use with the ROOMS I program. Monster Generator: With just a touch of a key, a complete set of random monster characteristics The dice Bag: Simulate 36 different rolls of polyhedral dice instantly. It will make your old dice bag obsolete.
A hand-drawn map of a dungeon schematic (from the top-down), with a cave-like entrance, into a series of interlocked passageways and rooms. It has hatched shading marks to indicate dungeon walls.
There is obviously a great deal of interest in fantasy and included, with the numbers of the rooms supplicd. role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons™ That is. Module Two allows for the creation of both player and ‘one of the reasons we carry regular column on the sublect. non-player characters...

160: Joust (1982)

Imagine the conversation at Williams HQ:

“I’m making a jousting game.”“Sounds great!”
“With ostriches!”
“Sorry, I thought you said… ostriches. Oh. You did.”

But it was great, with your gigantic bird skittering across platforms, and flying into the air so you could unsportingly whack your opponents in the face. A sequel overcomplicated things and messed up, but the original’s still a blast.

Play it on:

I'm doing a survey because I love retro games.

What is your own personal definition of a retro game?

Does the seventh generation of consoles count? (Wii / PS3 / Xbox 360)

What is the cut off?

Please boost for visibility.

Thank you 😊
