#Bookstodon#LGBTQstodon#Smallpress Real talk: I’m meeting with a book publicist today to talk about them taking on marketing tasks for us because I am struggling w/ working full time, running the press, caregiving and such. This would be a SUPER great week to buy a book from our store! https://queenofswordspress.com
Of Cattle and Men by Brazilian writer Ana Paula Maia, translated by Zoë Perry, and published by Charco Press has won the Republic of Consciousness prize, a new award that recognizes books from small publishers
This is the one time we are going to do this. We could really use a boost. Please spread the word, and please let people know who care about this industry and may have resources to give us a bigger boost.
Discovered this little #smallpress#comic pub called Really Easy Press and they’ve got some really interesting stuff in their catalog! I kind of love #risograph printing so I wanted to see what this one had to offer, and I was not disappointed! 🧵1/

The folks at Solarpunk Magazine have launched a Kickstarter for their 2024 subscriptions, and you can get my novella STEEL TREE as part of the “ebook bag” reward tier! This is a great way to grab a bunch of amazing optimistic speculative fiction all at once.
We'll be at Can*Con where Stelliform's EIC will have office hours, a chat about animals in SFFH, & a reading as well as hosting a virtual book launch for Tiff Morris's GREEN FUSE BURNING with Suzan Palumbo. Plus we'll be at the Whprsnapr Brewing book fair Oct 7/8! See you soon!
Here is the cover for From Typewriters to Twitter:Celebrating 50 Years of Science Writing -- my pet project during the pandemic. (Pretty excited about this)
This might be the only book that chronicles science writing/ #scicomm in #Canada A digital version is available for free to members of the SWCC (after you log onto the website a link should appear under About). Non-members should contact the association directly and ask (not sure if there's a small fee or if it's free too?). 92 pages, lots of historical photos, short bios of some extraordinary and often eccentric and high-profile writers who helped shaped Canada's science writing landscape. Controversies! Romance! Serious stuff! Fun stuff! The impactful awards program! This book had input from over 20 people who played various roles in the association. This isn't an in-depth analysis, but chronicles important events and an evolving media association. There are no plans at this point for a print copy, but if interested send a note to the SWCC office expressing interest.
Tons of books have been added to IndieStoryGeek.com recently-- there are over 5,000 indie books listed now, which makes it easily the largest collection of indie-only books I've ever heard about.
But if your favorite small press, self-published, or web serial story isn't there, it's easy to add them! And if you're looking for an indie book to fit your mood, we have a novel review system designed to help with exactly that.
We're opening for submissions in just a few days! I haven't said much about what kind of non-fiction we're looking for, so I've added some info to the submissions page.
Speculative and imaginative stories about environment is what we want!
Spouse is wondering about Mastodon. Any recommendations for the best instance for a #SmallPress that is also following news out of #Ukraine very closely and very interested in international politics/diplomacy? Yes, he took over the business Twitter acct from me and began using it for his own research interests, which admittedly made it much more active. ;-D
So I bumped into this small press which has a couple of short stories that are free downloads, if anyone is interested in either the free items or the books they are publishing.
I saw some of his art online and thought it looked like “Invisible Hands” from Liquid Television, which I LOVED. Same artist! This didn’t have quite the same level of twisted, creepiness as that animated series, but I was so happy to find his work in comic form. There’s more too.
Book 27: “Performances for Waiting in Line: Performed Alone or in Collaboration with Others” by #PaulShortt.
Shortt’s print work “plays with, mocks and appropriates cultural norms, authority and rules”. I like his stuff. It’s accessible and brings art into everyday life. First encountered it in “How to Art Book Fair”: straight up advice.
This book has 60 performances. I’ll let you know if I ever attempt any. 😅
