Starting June 1, the Province of British Columbia will offer residents a rebate for purchasing a new ebike. The lower your income, the higher your rebate. This is good policy. E-bikes are amazing! https://bcebikerebates.ca/ #ebike #ebikes #mobility #climate

Nice! BC will be offering an ebike rebate program starting in June.

I bought mine last May, so I probably don't qualify, but I'm glad that others will :)

Hello , I'm looking for a cargo recommendation for tall people. I'm 6'5" and, if it matters, close enough to 250 lbs.

We have a Tern GSD in the family, and, while they say it's good for my height, I find it a bit awkward.

Boosts for reach are cool.

O of Mastodon, I beg your aid! I drive an old but sturdy that has a solid steel frame. I love the experience (as someone with back problems and chronic pain, it's actually a necessity...) BUT I also have chronic and it's a HEAVY . I want to convert it to an if possible - any recommendations or places I should start looking? I'm in , so if it doesn't ship here, it's no good :(

Please boost for visibility!

Have I mentioned I am enjoying my new e-bike? I didn't have a long ride in me this morning, but even a little one can go a long way. For no particular reason, I found last week a hard one. It's bright enough out there for sunglasses. I wore them. My hands were cold.

My parents are coming for a few days this week. It's mostly to see the grandkids. They will stay in a nearby hotel. I probably did not need to clean the oven, but the truth is that it was overdue. Now I am trying to clear the smell.

@tkleinwalsh I got my e-bike last summer and for the first time in a decade I’m really enjoying getting out there on 2 wheels.
I’m 70 and have osteoporosis and arthritis, but I’ve found that as I forced myself to go out for short easy rides I gradually built up my muscles around my knees and can now do 1 hour rides. I’m much fitter and I actually enjoy bicycling 😃

Strategy for getting the 4.5 yo to (finally) take interest in the balance bike (owned since he was 2): strap it to the ebike everywhere we go, and eventually one day he says “I want to ride my bike!” And then one day later he starts to get the hang of it and insists, “I’m going to ride it home!” (No you aren’t, kid, you are already about to collapse from exhaustion and home is 2 miles away). Smug satisfaction at successfully playing the long game

I just broke my longest running streak of living without . I have used my for over 4 months, since just before the winter solstice, without even starting a car.
Today I had to drive some friends to the airport. At least it was their car. It was worth it, they are good friends. I peddled over to their house and when I got back peddled home. I had almost forgotten how slow and painful freeway driving is at quitting time and how relaxed I was back on the bike going home.

Adopting voting because you wanted better elections is like buying a car because you want convenient and reliable mobility at rush hour. It seems like it will do what you want but the math just doesn't work like that. is the you actually wanted and we already have the infrastructure.

In cycling heaven. Today I e-biked my old 2006 Brompton with a Swytchbike kit. Only time for a short ride up Westwood Hill in Sydenham. Tough when I was fit, impossible with late onset asthma. Now trivial.

Still learning to cope with the initial 2/3 second of real cycling on a hill before the motor cuts in.

Their marketing is a tad over-enthusiastic but they do deliver the goods eventually.

We could choose instead to pay for other things, like robust & comprehensive supports for and .

Don't let anyone tell you there's not enough $. We have gobs of $. We just spend it to subsidize the least economically rational form of transportation.

Prompted by the occasional fire scare in a cargo bike group: someone ought to do proper investigative journalism about fire risk from charging. Found s Swedish report for 2005–2015 with interesting tables, no eBikes (nor mobile phones) identified separately, but at least the phones would seem remarkably safe. No general increase in fire accidents observed!

PSA for all the owners out there: when we tried to file a claim with our renters insurance for @shotsandcuts Rad Power bike, we were told it didn’t qualify for coverage because it had a throttle and was therefore, a vehicle that needed to be ensured separately.

something we were not told when we bought the policy even though we explicitly inquired about “bikes” and we’re told that yes, they were covered.

so if you have a bike, and you think it’s insured under a renters or home owners policy, maybe check just in case.

Ah no, the little g310 motor is not an option for regen braking, without an extra set of thrust bearings to counter the axial force from the helical gears.

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

I was wanting to do this as the front motor and maybe later convert to a clutchless planet gear carrier for regen, or consider the ezee with off the shelf fixed carriers available, but 3.8 vs 2.3kg 🤔 how hard could it be to add thrust bearings...

Your use-case of the day:

My wife’s stepdad, 88 y/o, is a lifelong cyclist. Racing, touring, etc. Last year, he was riding along, and his heart just stopped. 10 minutes of roadside CPR kept him alive til a cop with an AED arrived.

As part of rehab, he’s ridden on a trainer, but that sucks. With my e-brompton, enabled by the motor which ensures his heart rate doesn’t go above his prescribed max, plus the low stepover, he’s back on the streets.

“Life-changing,” reports my mother-in-law.

Finally got the battery for the motor mounted where I want it. The cargo platform flexes a bit under the battery so I need to add some kind of additional support. Took the front box off for repainting.
