I was reading an interesting, multi-paragraph, post on Facebook, when I was told my meal was ready.
I left the laptop open on the page. When I returned, I scrolled down a little - and Facebook showed me a timer graphic, then reloaded the page with new content.
@peter As a left handed gamer I use the right CTRL button as sprint or crouch all the time since I can't use WASD and the mouse at the same time so I always remap them to the arrow keys.
Paramount+ is now entirely useless if you use a pihole to block New Relic, Doubleclick, and Braze. You literally can't watch the shows you paid for without providing minute-by-minute viewership data to multiple ad platforms.
Ah the enshitification at YouTube ads continues. We are now at the dick growing pills stage of shitty advertising. I'd rather be forced to watch these all day over the PragerU, Epoch Times, Daily Caller, etc sourced ads. "Nitro Wood" wasn't enough of a catch so they had to add "magnum" to the product name too...now I'm totally buying into the claims! LOL
A bit ago someone here pointed to stupid and/or unsafe ads proliferating on YouTube. I talked about one I had seen with a heater defying the laws of physics. Here it is. Apparently it is the latest incarnation of a rolling scam (see link). This one has Steve the former NASA engineer (shown below) saving his family that were trapped in their house for days in a blizzard after the heat went out by inventing a new ceramic tile based heating system that can heat any room 34 F to 85 F in 90 seconds and keep it there against even a lay person's understanding of thermodynamics. See, he took his expertise building these systems for NASA, did we mention he worked for NASA yet?, to pull a Professor from Gilligan's Island feat to come up with this by reverse engineering the home HVAC unit and inventing the ceramic heating system...all while trapped in the house during a blizzard. But the evil HVAC industry wanted to sell it to consumers for a fortune but he decided to partner with friends to bring it to you directly. LOL.
Honestly the dialog isn't even self consistent. But apparently this and other renditions work enough that people keep buying these damn things. Since it is so easy to find its shocking that even out of their own self interest Google stops these ads from showing up. If you hear of a friend, family member, etc. talking about it give them the scoop it is BS ASAP. #enshitification#YouTube#scams#physics
Ads on websites can be annoying on the desktop but on mobile it seems we are getting to the point where the sites are downright unusable. It’s almost like peak popup ads era of the web. This isn’t just dinky sites either. It seems even major news sites are like this too. I guess time to throw over to an RSS reader again or something which means they won’t even get my view impressions any longer. The enshitification continues unabated… #rant#enshitification
⚠ #Enshitification warning: ~100+ clicks and scrolling needed to disable cookies on that page. Which is then followed by an endless loop of XSS warning popups.
On the #enshitification of #academic#publishing. Where scientists burn the candle at both ends, paying to read and publish their work, in what is the ultimate grift.

...any tech company that sells you a gadget that can have its features revoked is defrauding you. You're paying for x, y and z–and if they are contractually required to remove x and y on demand, they are selling you something that you can't rely on, without making that clear to you.
With all the #Enshitification happening in the digital world, I thought this morning might be a good time to remove the DRM from all my audio books. Who knows when these will get yanked for no reason by the company I quote/unquote "bought" them from.
As has been said by many smarter people than me, when you don't actually own it, it's not piracy. 😉
BTW: Here's what I use for all this de-DRMing, though it's not the only game in town. It's just really easy. https://epubor.com
