Konenpanien, to Birds
@Konenpanien@pixelfed.social avatar

On a trip to Japan, I went to visit a botanical and zoological garden. I met this incredible bird that looked me directly in the eyes, with its gaze it inspires respect and a certain fear, but in reality it is a harmless bird, in fact, it is in a very vulnerable state of conservation. This bird is the shoebill (Balaeniceps rex). It is native to Africa, measures between 1.50 and 2.0 meters tall, and is a worthy heir of the Mesozoic dinosaurs. Although time has passed since that tremendous experience, I am still impressed by his gaze.

A photo of a large bird, with long legs, an intense look that is scary, it is approximately one meter fifty tall, its name is shoebill, it looks straight ahead, its enormous shoe-shaped beak is attached to its neck to better see what it is seeing. Surrounds him. On the crest gray feathers that he always wears as a crown. The feathers all over its body are ash colored. It reminds a bit of an animal from prehistory.

RMs wine photo is now the thumbnail image on my playlist ( and clipped the wine out of sight!) I made this playlist 2 years ago and it completely tells that tale: the start of war in Ukraine, cats & kittens, BTS in the cinema ( when I fell in love with Home ), Covid quarantine, BTS song recommendations from Instagram, things I discovered, and I kept adding things until That That was released.

I just remembered that older (2G) phones use to cause a particular rhythmic sound in any nearby electronic speakers when a text message was about to come through. I thought that was pretty interesting.

The Atacama Desert in Chile is the driest in the world, but from time to time something wonderful happens, sporadic rain falls, and that arid soil is filled with life and color.

When I was in grade four and living in Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland, the librarian wouldn’t let me read fiction books they deemed above my reading level. At home, I was reading stuff like Robinson Crusoe, but at school I could only sign out stuff like Little Miss Sunshine or Mr Happy books. Little-kid picture books got old, fast. I wanted to read Dick Francis murder mysteries because they had horses on the cover. The librarian vetoed it. They told me I could sign out any nonfiction books, though. So I signed out a book on dog breeding. One day, two dogs were humping outside the classroom window. Until the teacher made us come back to our seats, I gave a graphic play-by-play telling all the other kids what was going on with dog penis and dog vagina when the dogs stood ass too ass. And that’s how I became a dog fuck expert at the age of nine. #librarian #dogs #fucking #ChildhoodMemories #memories

Compass Towards The Grail

when gloominess
deflects the gale
joy is the wind
that fills the sail

when despair is
tricking the scale
joy is the clue
that tells the tale

when spleen is thick
and hopes are pale
joy is meaning
that lifts the veil

when no reason
can find the trail
joy is compass
towards the grail

Accord With One's Nature

though worries hurt
and fears injure
joy yields healing
beyond measure

though gloom has roots
deep in culture
joy at all times
sages nurture

though the reasons
may outnumber
joy is the wealth
wise ones treasure

though the mundane
exerts pressure
joy is accord
with one's nature

Respite On Heavy Days

when the constraints
the spirit faze
joy is a door
out of the maze

when nobody
offers their praise
joy is moving
on anyways

when challenges
the psyche daze
joy is clear sky
after the haze

when upheavals
disrupt the ways
joy is respite
on heavy days

This was a good day. Saw a pile of cherry blossom petals on the ground and plopped down for a selfie. Nothing more. Just a moment of joy. Gotta celebrate the ones we’ve had.

joy is presence

joy is purpose
when fields are ploughed
joy is keeping

joy is a calm

joy is the truth
humbling the proud
joy is freedom
that is allowed

joy is quiet
when life is loud
joy is wisdom
piercing the shroud
joy is the mind
without a cloud

Having a trip down memory lane over here tonight … I think the best live show lineup I ever saw was:

Billy Talent
Rise Against
Anti-Flag
In Kelowna in the mid 2000’s. 🤘🏻

A close second?
Florence and the Machine
… early 2010’s in San Jose, CA.

Third?
No Doubt & Paramore
Concord, CA late 2000’s.

(Tidbit: I haven’t been able to go to a live show in 10 years, so yes, my list is a bit dated)

January 2008.

Fidel Castro was still officially President, but his brother Raul was actually in charge.

We had to spend "Tourist money" at a great inflated exchange rate compared to "local money" (but it was still not an expensive place to be tourist).

A beautiful but struggling country, in a time of great change. There was a brief window under Obama when travel restrictions were relaxed, and it almost seemed like Cuba could really flourish. But it wasn't to last.

But the salsa and the rum were excellent.

  1. Havana - classic cars
  2. Baracoa - Che Guevara mural
  3. Trinidad de Cuba - Colourful buildings
  4. Viñales - Drying tobacco
  5. Baracoa - Beach scene

Colourful mural of the head of Che Guevara.
View over a street of colourful Spanish colonial style buildings, with a church tower in the centre of the picture.
Tobacco leaves drying on a rack in the sun.
Curving beach of golden sand, with turquoise water and a blue sky. A fallen palm tree lies along the beach.
