What resources exist for recruiting, adding, onboarding, and training #moderators in online spaces, especially volunteer #mods? I also welcome resources specific to Mastodon #moderation, but many lessons for moderating other online communities should translate.
Also, while practical guides to moderation itself are important, I would especially value any insight into supporting the human moderators. How can mods work together effectively, and avoid conflict & burnout?
I had this great idea of starting up a Discord server for other admins/moderators that would be interested in having conversations with other admins outside of Mastodon/Fediverse, as I know there are quite a few admins that actually like and use Discord.
While yes, I know there are Matrix servers and other things in use, but it's always good to have other platforms that others like as well.

IFTAS is pleased to announce funding to offer personal digital safety services to Fediverse #moderators , community managers, and service administrators.
This service helps reduce harassment by deletion of personal info from data brokers, account hardening, and live incident response and resources.
Today is the deadline for Fediverse #moderators to fill in our #Moderator Needs Assessment - the survey will remain open but today is the cutoff for IFTAS to review the responses and begin work on solutions.

Are you ready for some more useful tips to make the most out of your Mastodon journey? Here we go:
• Consider adding #AltText to images you post. Not only is it good for SEO, it's also considerate to visually impaired users. To add alt text, just click on 'Edit' after attaching an image to your post and write a brief description in the 'Describe for the visually impaired' field.
• Be mindful of the different #cultures on Mastodon. With a vast global community, it's always a good practice to be respectful of different customs, languages, and traditions.
• Get to know your server's #moderators and their policies. They're there to ensure a safe and harmonious experience for all users. In case of any trouble or queries, don't hesitate to reach out to them.
• In Mastodon, you can create #lists to better organize the content you follow. It's a great way to categorize and filter your feed, helping you stay on top of topics you're most interested in.
• Remember, #silencing or #suspending an account or server is always an option if you find content disturbing or inappropriate. You have control over your Fediverse experience.

I should treat #admins not as faceless #moderators but as friendly hosts, and not mess up their place! The #ServerRules are obviously essential, but it's easy to cause problems even if I stay inside the rules.
Blocking trolls works well, but in order to protect my followers I need the admins' involvement. So that adds work for a couple of busy people, which isn't kind.

Comparing longtime, volunteer community moderators to politicians is an unforced, massive blunder for the CEO of a platform for volunteer-led communities.
@chikorita157 and I are accepting #moderators to moderate Sakurajima Social for the long term. Some of our community members may recall that I was originally here as a Quality Assurance (QA) Technician, but I decided to help out with moderating on this instance's open beta after the first wave of Mastodon Social #spam#bots. I'm afraid that my job here is only temporary, and as a college student, I will be starting summer classes on June 5th, meaning that I won't be able to do much moderation during that time.
If you would like to be a moderator at Sakurajima Social, please DM @chikorita157; you will need to meet the following requirements:
You must have been on the #fediverse for at least one calendar month (you can calculate the earliest date you can apply today here; be sure to press Today before you press Calculate New Date).
Although not a requirement, it is recommended that you have experience being a moderator, you and @chikorita157 are mutual followers, and you have experience with #Calckey / #Misskey / #Foundkey (we accept mods who do not have experience on these platforms, but it will be harder to learn how to use it, especially with some of the features being potentially. overwhelming).
We would greatly appreciate some #boosts for this message to get out there and for new recruits to see this.
I feel that Mastodon Social is starting to get out of hand. I've been seeing some highly political posts that don't contain CWs, and I've been seeing some hateful speech from users on Mastodon Social. The server has outgrown its #moderators by a large margin. I'm starting to wonder if a limit is in order. I would make this a fediblock post, but I'm reserving those for emergency of emergencies.
Just a note: If any admins/mode of lgbtq-focused instances have another conflict emerge, I am literally a trained conflict mediator specialized in helping trans communities build peace for ourselves. I'd gladly provide third party conflict mediation and transformation to help de-escalate and find a better way forward between our communities.
