Is there a proper chord name for a note, its third, and its eighth [ / itself one octave up]? and, any good resources that would cover this kinda thing in completely unnecessary detail?
Hello new folks! There's a lot of you recently, so I thought I'd do an #intro post. I'm an independent #musician who uses Mastodon to spread the word about #IndependentMusic --my own, and the work of others! If you #follow, you'll get lots of recommendations of new, #independent, #underground#music of all kinds! My own favorite is weird #ElectronicMusic, but I listen to and write about all kinds of music.
Okay so. I’m doing that thing where I’m suddenly thinking bigger. We’ll keep focusing on the supercool mastodon #music show, but how about this concept.
Has anyone addressed the overall concept of #musiclicensing on #mastodon + the #fediverse? I mean OVERALL universal music licensing. What’s powering TikTok? How come they get to have all the music licensing fun?
I know no one “owns” masto, but who oooowns mastodon? Boost a Berklee Music Deans Lister digging into licensing in their direction.
You can tune any instrument to any arbitrary frequency for center-c and as long as all the notes are of the same relative difference between them the melodies will generally work and harmonize. As long as all the instruments are synced it will sound ok in a band too.
In modern day we have a definition of what frequency center C is. But I have to wonder, how do we know the modern day frequency for middle-C is anywhere near the frequency used historically. In fact, when even was the idea solidified at all?
A few weeks ago we shared some of the music we at Team Thunderbird use to get focused. We'd love to know what tunes - songs, playlists, or even genres - help you flow through that Monday morning inbox. ✉️ 🎧
So we can love deeper
Fly higher
See Clearer
Burn Brighter
Feel more than we ever did before
Yea we can swim oceans
Climb mouttains
Dance like nobody's watching
Live life like we never did before
And through the highs and low

Good morning, afternoon, night, whatever works for you! It's #BandcampFriday and it's time for me to start a way-too-long thread about #music I produce and music I enjoy!
First up, we have my own album from last year, 51 Miles from Nowhere. This album involves some of the best musicians I've ever worked with. It's filled with raw energy, moody lyrics, and fuzzy guitar.
If you buy the LP, it comes with a copy of the Guidebook to Nowhere (a zine I made set within the fictional Deathrayverse filled with cryptids, an evil corporation, and general creepy vibes).
51 Miles from Nowhere is one of my favorite pieces I've ever released, and I hope you listen to it. My favorite reviews are "I'm not sure I like it" and "It's interesting." (there are also positive reviews, these are just my favorite).
soooooo without further ado, it is now time for my all-prince music thread! i was thinking about going halfsies on it (half prince stuff, half related artists) but i'ma stick to just prince's stuff today. might do a related artists thread tomorrow if i'm feel i'm up to posting it.
this is my early #BlackFriday thread for this week, btw. let's fucken gooooooooo~ 🧵👇🏾
As a young fella just getting into #jazz in the late eighties my first impressions of David Sanborn were that he was corny and overly smooth, in an unhip bag I didn't dig with guys like Metheny and the Breckers. Then he blew my fucking mind with the Night Music show and I've respected him ever since. There was almost no really cool weird music on TV in 1988-90 except that show, and man, Night #Music was legit!!! Nick Cave, Bongwater, Pere Ubu, Miles Davis...
I want to get back into teaching #music. Especially #bassguitar. That's why I made a little thing. It's still in German only but will add an English version if people are interested 😸 #basshttps://raichoosbassstudio.de/
It's a Friday where I can work from home and try and get stuff done, so a random CD pick out of my shelf to listen to; today's winner is 'Make Another World', Idlewild's 2007 album. Not as iconic as some of their earlier albums, yet a very solid melodic & rock work. #CDFriday
Behold, custom made something 4!
put together my fave type of instrumentals... XD
It's pretty much like an attempt to mix rock and trap together... and a bunch of random tunes I made up in my head. This time I made a few of the beats and switched up the samples more!! and I even wrote a couple notes myself too!
If I had to choose a favorite arcade game soundtrack from the 1980s, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment. It would be "Magical Sound Shower" from Sega's classic 1986 Out Run driving game.
Composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi using FM synth tech, it's such an uplifting tune. I love it, and it brings back childhood memories of spending more cash than I should have in order to race around in a Ferrari with a blonde bombshell sitting next to me. 😎
I've never seen a consistent hashtag here used by Fedi musical artists when posting original material / promoting themselves. Is there one i'm missing?
The #music tag gets used for everything including someone just posting a favorite song from YouTube or whatever.
Other art disciplines have their tags that indicate "original poster" here.
Feels useful for discovery. Should be unique, indicate original music, clever and memorable, work fedi wide
