Ironically, the kind of large-scale social contract engineering performed by ”the woke mind virus” is exactly what mega-sized networks of computer algorithms and people need to stay free of centralised censorship and control.

I've been floundering around with the issue of scale for years now. Some intuitions, some more disciplined thoughts on how it's vitally important to cognitive science. But haven't really been able to put it to work.

Was delighted to found out a few weeks ago that there has been a lot of new work on the concept generally in the past few years. Two new books to look at. First up:

Horton, Z. (2021). The Cosmic Zoom: Scale, Knowledge, and Mediation. University of Chicago Press.

@Vivaldi Bug report:

  • OS: Fedora Linux 40.20240424.0 (Silverblue) x86_64
  • DE: GNOME 46.1 (Wayland)

After signing in after sleep, Vivaldi renders at @1x even though my screen is set to @2x.

(Moving the window around or resizing it, etc., re-renders it at the correct resolution.)

@JenMsft Valid scale will ever be a possibility for Windows drives usages? Is it ever came up as an idea? Or just for a functional toggle button? I'm just created this mockup. Do you like it?

I'm writing a new big book on software performance and scalability

If you'd like to see early chapter drafts from it, and potentially give me a little feedback (or answer a few simple questions I ask of you, about your impressions), in private? please let me know

I would give you a free copy of final ebook

I'm getting excited for our upcoming talk at this year. The immutable desktop space has really taken shape this past year and Fedora has played a big part of that story. Working on an "all levels" talk for it has all the more helped me to remember how far things have come and the amazing potential for every day laptop and desktop users, from total newbies to dayjob developers.

Segfault when running the apt module to remove wifi and Bluetooth related packages on my raspberry pi. But no problem using the equivalent apt commands. That's weird.

Anyway, this raspberry pi ("pilote") needs to be upgraded (Debian 10 to 12). A perfect time to install it from scratch and use Ansible.

As promised in my talk at , I've done a big refacto of this repository to publish it on github. Soon™ 🤞🏻
