Did I just check the weather on Saturday in Tehran for a script I'm writing so I could have a character mention the nice weather? Yes.

Will anyone else ever check the weather to be sure it was, in fact, nice? No.

So will anyone else know whether I made up the good weather or not? No, but I'll know. I'll know.

(it was in the 60s [high teens in C])

This morning I wrote a alias that switches into a repository directory, checks out the main branch, opens Finder windows for two subdirectories, launches a new Nightly window, waits a second, and then opens four URLs as tabs of that new window, so yeeeeaaaahhhh, I guess you could say the day is going pretty good so far.

You can list all detected monitors on your system by running the following code

-----BEGIN BASH-----

xrandr --prop | grep " connected" | awk '{print $1}'

-----END BASH-----

#sh #script #bash #gnu #linux #debian

The ".dxxxxxxxxxx" part always consists of 12 characters where "." and "d" are character 1 and 2 followed by ten single digits.

Well, 28 is going nicely with a green tick in the check and I do think that jumping between apps within it is a little snappier than 27. My next update is the package, currently on 8.1 and should be on 8.2 now. Interestingly even the seemingly small incremental changes in PHP version often have quite major improvements so are well worth doing. Found a useful that says it will update the 8.2 config to be as per my 8.1

An opportunity to break everything once more!! 😂

Do you want your to look a bit more like ? This script makes any instance use the "bird style UX" designed by @rolle

It's quite pretty and functional!

Just be sure to edit the script and add your instance matching the format highlighted in the image below.

"It's Monday and I'm Bored", a short play featuring Nick the Abyssinian

Nick: Hey you.
Me: Yes?
Nick: I'm bored, it's raining outside and blocking the sun.
Me: Observant cat, good boy.
Nick: Fine, you can get up and feed me.
Me: Tell your mom.
Nick: I did and she told me to go tell you.
Me, calling out: Kathy did you send Nick down to tell me to feed him?
Kathy, calling out back: Nick who?
Nick: You both suck, you know, sometimes.
Me: I need to get coffee anyway, let's go.

Finally finished my backup system this weekend. It runs on top of a (file sync tool) setup with a 45 day rolling record of file changes, which is the bar plot on the top.

For each synced folder, I do a set of full and differential backups, depending on whether they are Primary or Secondary in terms of how frequently they change.

The backups are encrypted .7z files. Everything is run from a 650 line Python script, and generates an HTML report. 😊

In MS you can quickly switch between ribbon tabs with your mousewheel. 🖱️

In
@libreoffice
you can't. 🤬 Users have wanted this since at least 9 years ago.¹

☝️ Today I managed to hack together a really dirty little / script for Windows and GNU/Linux that makes this possible! 🥳 🍾🥂

You can find it here:

Hope it helps someone!

A little demo of what the script does: A libreoffice window. Hovering the mouse over the ribbon (button bar) and scrolling the mouse wheel up/down switches between the notebook bar tabs. Hovering over the content area, scrolling the mouse wheel just scrolls the content as always.

fox, to security

@stonehead Hi! I'm glad you asked because I'm sure there are many more people wondering about the same thing! :)

Yes, there is always a risk when you download something from open sources. However, you really cannot trust official sources as well. A good example is Sony's rootkit scandal. [1][2]

Doing basic internet "hygiene" will prevent you from most viruses, though. Having a decent virus scanner will do wonders [3], and the rest comes down to common sense. Be very careful with executables, keep your software (like PDF readers) up to date, look for settings to turn off scripts and perhaps consider sanitizing your PDFs before opening them. [4][5]

An interesting point on the aforementioned website is the following:

"With budgets getting tighter, we understand the appeal of free antivirus software. While there have been great changes in free subscriptions, the most notable being they now offer real-time malware protection, they are still minimal compared to a full antivirus security suite.

There are some exceptions, but most free antivirus programs don't offer web protections. This means they won't stop malware from downloading if you accidentally click on a malicious link. They will snatch it before it has a chance to infract your computer, but we feel better than a threatening file doesn't get that far into the process."

I hope this helped you on your way, and if not, do let me know! :)
