@kubikpixel @ploum is absolutely right here. A community's success cannot be measured in terms of dominance or the numbers of billionaires it generates or the amount of VC money thrown at it. It is measured by the value the tool offers to the users, no matter how many there are.
My favourite in person communities have ten to fifty people in them - I don't need to broadcast my thoughts to potential billions - I can't comprehend that many people.

@fediverse Let's face it. When talking about the Fediverse, it is very hard to sell interoperability between different types of instances as a major advantage.

It asks members over 150 Qs and matches *like-minded people based on values (social, political, etc), plus, personal and community interests, in groups of three. SMART!! I met great folks through it--two I go out with. It t could use more members. Seriously, the matching concept is the best!
What makes the lack of algorithms in the #Fediverse great? I get to see posts and talk with people all around the world.
You don't get that on #SNS with algorithms because they filter things for you, and you have no control over it.
Don't get me wrong, algorithms by itself are not bad. Just that, it is used in a way that limits your exposure (your posts to the world; and the world to you); and you have no control.
Another improper use of it is, like in #Facebook's case, they push #ads as well as to control the narrative and shape people's minds and opinions.
The new #SNS: #Pebble (formerly #T2#T2social) just announced that they are shutting down the free service this coming November 1st.

sono d'accordo con quanto dice @futuroprossimo, il futuro non sarà dominato da una singola piattaforma ma da una rete di piattaforme che offrono esperienze personalizzate e connesse fra di loro con un protocollo comune.
Credo che il fediverso per molti sarà un punto di non-ritorno e nessuno più vorrà investire il proprio tempo su giardini recintati.
