What an incredible and imaginative nonfiction book ! Solstice focuses on the longest/shortest day on Earth and how it is celebrated around the world. Fourteen fictional children share their cultures and beliefs, focusing on music, dance, food or language. This picture book is truly interesting, and so beautiful !
Most remarkable about the #Killadangan#Megalithic Complex is the Stone Row, which consists of five standing stones (one has fallen) which increases in height from north to south, drawing the eye up to a niche in the eastern shoulder in #CruachánAigle/#CroaghPatrick. At about 1.50 pm on the winter #solstice the sun dips into this little niche in the mountain. At this point, the sun is directly in line with the row of stones, before disappearing shortly afterwards behind the mountain. #Celtic

Rare post providing a glimpse of my work life. I am a self employed self taught carpenter specializing in building traditional healing spaces for community - Finnish style #sauna. On the #solstice no less, I installed these benches in a neighbor's #DIY backyard project which due to injury they had needed to pay a guy to finish.
I'm really proud of this assembly - it had to be built in segments but it worked out great. Top bench can be removed so the bottom can be used as a guest bed.
Some of us have gone numb and non-functional; others are deep in the season and lighting candles, decorating trees, celebrating the return of the Sun, and practicing so many other traditions and acts of faith and love that this writer cannot name them all. I, myself, am holding space in the in-between this year.
Quirk I have, I generally don't post pics of my #alter unless I'm about to rearrange it. With the #solstice it's time to dust, and transition to a new arrangement.
#ArtAdventCalendar Day 22 it's #Dec25 afternoon-- hope anyone who celebrates in any way is enjoying and/or surviving! The meaningful day for me is Dec 21, but we still treat this like a #holiday. Just two of us here, we had a nice pizza breakfast followed by pumpkin pie with ice cream...lol.. I'll cook a #vegetarian meal a bit later.
