Good morning #Fediverse

How are we all doing today? Let's all take a moment to comment below and discuss what the day has in store for each of us.

For me, it's just the usual work stuff. On-boarding/training was completed yesterday for my transition from a contractor to a full-time employee, so it's back to normal starting today, which is nice.

No plans for the rest of the day though I do hope to get some video game time in later.

I just heard the bad news that I am probably going to need a new job starting in July.

So, before beginning the regular search, I wanted to ask my Fedi friends if anyone could use a capable C++ programmer with lots of graphics and networking experience. I wouldn't mind a change, so I'm open to anything. Even other programming languages! It would be awesome if I could use Linux to do the work. 🐧

Locations I would consider are: Central Europe, Melbourne, Sydney or Remote

🔁 Boost appreciated! 🙏

Yes, prime minister, it’s a scandal so many of us are signed off work

Maybe should stop making us ill

The numbers signed off work have surged in last 14 years because governments us catastrophically unwell

The does not have a problem. It has a government-couldn’t-care-less problem

Today was a VERY SUCCESSFUL day!

The switch over from being a contractor to a full-time employee was smoother than I ever expected it to be.

Got the work laptop wiped and set back up with my new account and everything else is just working as intended.

I have one 15 minute Zoom meeting tomorrow to wrap up things and then I'll be done and back to work as normal!

Work/Career Update!

As many of you know, I have worked for @novalauncher for 8 1/2 years. When I was hired, I was done so as a contractor and remained a contractor the entire time. Then two years ago, Branch Metrics acquired Nova and while I made the transition over, I was still a contractor due to Branch not having things setup to hire full time employees in the state of North Carolina. So for the entirety of my Nova Launcher career, I've been a contractor. (cont...)

@cliffwade@allthingstech.social avatar

Today, that has officially changed. Effective today I am finally considered a full-time employee for Branch and for Nova Launcher itself. This has been a very long time coming and something I've hoped to have happen and today is finally that day.

Job wise, nothing changes as I will still be doing the same thing(s) I've been doing for 8 1/2 years. The only things that do change are as follows. (cont...)

Good morning and happy Monday

It's an early start to the day due to excitement on my behalf, so let's all discuss what the first day of the week has in store for us as well as the week ahead.

For me, it's some work stuff(more in a post coming up shortly), followed by more work stuff.

Video games tonight with family friends like we do each Monday and then just relaxing and enjoying the evening!

I just realised every week for the next four weeks will be four day work weeks!

Next week has Labour Day, then there's Ascension Day the week after, then it's Constitution Day in Norway, and finally Whit Monday the fourth week.

May is giving us a taste of the four day work week! 😊

As the yen continues to hurtle downwards (it hit 155 yen to the US dollar this week), it's time to reconsider working in Japan unless you earn in USD. Here's why it's harder than ever to justify working here. (We wrote this in November 2022, but it's even more true today.)

Good morning and happy Friday

How are we all doing today? Tell me about your day today, or what cool things you did during this past week or what awesome things you hope to do over the upcoming weekend.

Work stuff as usual here and with no meetings at all today, so that's nice.

For the weekend, no plans that I know of currently. Likely just stay home and relax.

I'll of course play some video games like always.

Before I retired (and sometimes since) I have talked with students & ex-students about their careers & how they would like them to move in a different direction;

at the centre of most of their disquiet & aspiration for change(s) is a desire to be doing 'meaningful' work.

However, its not always clear (even to themselves) what that might actually mean. Here Caleb Althorpe (Trinity College) has a pretty good go at making sense of that desire.

Good morning and happy Thursday to all of you amazing individuals here in the today.

Tell me about your day today, what you've accomplished or what you hope to accomplish. Or even what you hope to not accomplish! LOL

For me, it's work stuff as usual, with a work meeting at 12pm.

Nothing else beyond that except to get through the week and the weekend and then some exciting career news on Monday that I'll be talking about!

Good morning and happy Wednesday to everyone around the today!

Let's talk about what our day today will consist of and what we all hope or need to accomplish for the day.

For me, I have a meeting at 12pm due to it needing to be moved from yesterday as it was a very busy day at work yesterday for all of us.

Not much else planned that I am aware of. Hoping to get some video game time in a bit later.

"Perhaps most shocking of all is that so little of this actually is shocking. From the 40% of Gen Z workers who believe is an inevitable part of success, to executives who believe high-pressure, “trial-by-fire” assignments are a required rite of passage, to toxic hustle culture that pushes busyness as a badge of honor, too many of us now expect to feel overwhelmed, over-stressed, and eventually burned out at ."
