@OnePlanet@luckytran Same in Vegas. My doctor came into the exam room, saw my mask, and exclaimed, "Do you have Covid?!" I don't (so far) because I always mask in medical buildings. 😷

Welcome to China’s Cat Island, where lucky strays wait for a new home https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/02/26/china-shanghai-cat-island-rescue/ 'The happiest place on Earth for cats might just be here, on Cat Island, a feline playground just a few miles from Shanghai Disneyland.[where] 400-plus kitties ... rest in the shade of specially constructed grass-covered play tunnels or loll about [lol] in pagodas.' 😀 #cats#catsofmastodon#China
What's up with #Pixelfed |? I tried to create an account on 3 different instances, only to have all 3 blocked for spam on the first post. This is one of the images that they labelled spam ("In presence of Harry Truman, LBJ signed bill creating Medicare and Medicaid, Truman Library, Independence, Mo., 1965" via historian Michael Beschloss. #history#uspol
@bynkii When I was a new Windows XP user, many annoying but well-meaning friends told me I should drop it for Linux. Twenty years later, I have yet to fully make the switch :linux:
Commentary: Will #Firefox rise like phoenix from the ashes in 2024? https://www.ghacks.net/2024/01/07/will-firefox-rise-like-phoenix-from-the-ashes-in-2024/ "The unlocking of full add-ons support in Firefox for Android may be the fire-starter that Mozilla needed." I wonder how many users will notice Manifest v3. I've used Firefox on PC for 20 years, but on Android I use Kiwi, a Chromium browser that blocks ads and supports many add-ons. #Android#Chromium
Vulnerability in #Microsoft#Edge allows code smuggling (but there's more) https://stackdiary.com/vulnerability-in-microsoft-edge-allows-code-smuggling/ "Also, Microsoft snuck in a change in their release notes that turns on a feature to share your search history with outside sites by default. You've got to manually turn it off if you don't want it." What fun. Printing is also broken for me in the latest Edge. #privacy
The #Windows 11 problem https://www.spacebar.news/p/the-windows-11-problem 'The widget panel was one of the major new features in Windows 11. However, it’s now almost exclusively a tool for Microsoft to shove clickbait “news”, sponsored articles, and auto-playing videos in your face. I do not want my operating system to show videos and headlines from Fox News and Daily Mail when I hover over part of the taskbar.'
Bandcamp has its problems, not least with passing off. (One band I know was surprised to see its albums for sale. Bandcamp didn’t even respond to comment requests, although did eventually take down the pages.) But I’ll be sorry to see it receive death from a thousand cuts – or a few really big ones. Which looks like where things are heading.
To quiet the machines, Philips packed their CPAP devices with foam. The foam broke down over time sending potentially “toxic & carcinogenic” material into the throats and lungs of users. “Reports detailed nearly 2,000 cases of cancer, 600 liver & kidney illnesses & 17,000 respiratory ailments.”
Philips withheld > 3,700 complaints over 11 years from the FDA, while waging aggressive marketing campaigns to sell more machines. “There were people who knew and knew for a long said time,” said a. 1/2
@cbarbermd Philips is suing me for more than the full price of a broken heart monitor that their shipper wouldn't accept with a prepaid label. I would happily return it if someone from my doctor's office or the company would take it.
