Has there ever been someone who has been so totally disconnected from everything they just said in the previous sentence.

Trump: he's rushing this case

Also Trump: they've never sat in court so long

Acyn:

@GottaLaff and yet, it’s consistent.

Trump is the top chef of word salad. It’s never meant to make sense, it’s meant to inflame.

Personally I never order or eat the salad but there are plenty who make it their entire diet. I’ll call them Magatarians.

@simplenomad taxes are only bad if you receive no benefit from them.
Personally I like having decent roads to drive on, civil defense, leadership and social benefits for the poor and elderly. So while I may not enjoy paying taxes, I do enjoy seeing a functioning society where people care for themselves, their neighbors and communities collectively.

Rap beef is silly. People really die behind this nonsense.

People that say that they love rap beef, do love rappers... But in the same way that people that love dog fights, love dogs. Some people go to NASCAR races to see who the most skilled driver is, and to marvel at the engineering. Other people just go to watch the crashes. Their entertainment is watching you burn.

And like I've also said before, gangster rap is a performance by Black people for white people.🤷🏿‍♂️

Magooish,

@raganwald @mekkaokereke it’s a human character flaw that we don’t want our favorite things to change. We like predictability and tend toward it.
But artists are specifically here to challenge that, rather music, painting, architecture, craft, cooking, thinking… they are levers for us to move forward and not rot in our own self assured mess.

Miles Davis, Picasso, Frank Lloyd Wright, Kurt Cobain, Alice Waters, I could go on and on. They change the world.

"Chain migration" is the BEST kind of immigration. You want people who move to you country to have a local network and support. You want new immigrants to bring their family, and the economic activity they generate and the value they add to communities to be in YOUR country.

I can't believe we let them use it like a slur. It's good and do it more.

What? They brought their elderly parents? That's good for US and for them (the new American we want to be successful and happy.) RIGHT?

Magooish,
@Magooish@mas.to avatar

@futurebird they don’t come here to take anyone’s job. They come here to create opportunities of their own. Business ownership rather sole proprietor or llc/inc are a HUGE part of why immigrants come here. It’s what so many of them dream about, the opportunity to self determine their future.
They also love to be active in their communities. They understand democracy better than most Americans because they lived without it for most of their lives before coming here.

Magooish,
@Magooish@mas.to avatar

@cohomologyisFUN @futurebird
Yes, there is a massive positive economic cascade that happens with immigrants.

Why these things are not all that gets discussed is frustrating. Instead Fox News and the right wing media are given all the air time over the negatives which are overshadowed by positive outcomes when facts are in play.

Magooish,
@Magooish@mas.to avatar

@StillIRise1963 What if we understood how lucky we are, that we already have enough, that sharing isn’t losing, and that new people, ideas and the things that come with them are what push us forward and upward?
What if we valued the newness of others without needing to cling to a revisionist history? Imagine if every hand up reached back and brought another hand up and we could all live happily together?

I think about this all the time.

Magooish,

It can be.

But everyone has to see the value or it’s just wishing. Some people can only be happy when others are unhappy. They are unable to understand the entire concept and no amount of illustration to prove it will be enough.

    This feels like a refinement of the cases and charges, not an alarming omen of things to come. I’m not confident the prosecution will go back and indict again on the dismissed items. There’s still plenty remaining to get a conviction on the evidence.

    But I can see a lot of anxiety starting to churn from those who believe Trump will get away with everything. Since most of his life he’s been successful at avoiding count ability, I understand the concern.

    To win, you have to participate in defense and offense. At this moment in time, a defensive move is voting for Dems over nazis. An offensive move would be to convince more progressive candidates to get in the pipeline in towns, districts, states and federally.

    Magooish,
    @Magooish@mas.to avatar

    @StillIRise1963
    It’s also short term and long range objectives that require coordination. They need to work alongside one another toward the common goal.
    To use your analogy, you can play defense all day, but if your offense has no opportunity to score you cannot win. Both things are equally important, but for different reasons. Progressives need democracy to move the ball down the field.

    But it’s 10 yards forward, 4 back, occasional punting and special teams that make a win.

    @GottaLaff @Eetschrijver I would not rule out denial as a large factor at play.
    Fear is personally complicated and yet it’s a very effective tool for authoritarians. They use it both subtly and overtly. Its use is a proven tool to get people to flee, to disengage and to fight one another. It doesn’t matter to the authoritarian which of these are employed because they all aid their cause- to make a path forward for fascism.
    Easier to pretend it’s all overblown.
