I'm seeing more and more people, especially non-artists, saying things like 'My AI art skills are really improving,' as if AI is a discipline such as drawing, painting or whatever.
Like people in 1981 who pricked the cellophane on their frozen ready-meals, popped them in the microwave and said 'My cooking skills are really improving. Maybe I'm a chef now.'

I'm just finishing up a novel. I've been writing screenplays & other story-led narratives for decades. Classic structure has been drummed into me. But then, when I was diagnosed as neurodivergent, I thought, 'Hold on, maybe the traditional story model is actually a neurotypical device...'
I decided to let my / write my novel. In doing so, I have developed a new revolutionary storytelling model. You're welcome.

Does anybody know the name of this typeface which was prevalent in the 1950s and 60s? People often say it's Stymie Bold Italic, but it isn't. Stymie letters such as 'O' and 'U' are more rounded and the top of the 'A' has serif lines left and right, whereas my examples don't.

I'm launching a new social media app. It's called BIRB. This is the logo. It's the only app that demands you crochet, knit or embroider your posts.
Posts are called 'Yarns', editing a Yarn is called Darning, threads are called Tapestries, pile-ons are Shag Piles, blocking is called Black-Sheeping.

The binge continues unabated. These are some of the CDs I listened to (a lot) in the 90s. They're almost tame compared with some of his other works, e.g., Dance Nos 1-5, Music In 12 Parts, and the operas, which some find a bit challenging. There's something about his intense, repetitive loops that suggests autistic stimming and I'd be interested to know if the music of Glass (and other minimalist composers) resonates with other autistic people.

Will we ever get a proper search function in Masto? It seems counterintuitive not to have one.

🧵 I'm browsing 'Zivilverteidigung,' the Swiss national defence book from 1969.
The Swiss took their nuclear defence very seriously. Many buildings (my own included) are still built today with nuclear bunkers in the cellars.
The UK's own 'Protect & Survive' booklet was 30 pages, whereas, the Swiss 'Zivilverteidigung' is 320 pages.
Great graphic design, too. Here's a thread of random images.

When you read -related news threads and see responses, many respondents' bios claim to be religious (typically hardline US evangelical) patriots. Of course they also support Trump; they're pre-conditioned to believe things for which there is insufficient evidence. Religion for obvious reasons, but patriotism is also an ideology often built on national myths.
The too-widespread culture of rejecting reason and critical thinking is one of the greatest threats facing us as a species.

Having one of those days when I wonder how different my life might have been had my & been diagnosed much (much) earlier...
It sometimes feels a bit like heaving myself breathless over a marathon finishing line long after others have completed it, only to find that I was shlepping an anvil behind me that could have so easily been offloaded, if only I'd known.

I just asked who I was and it told me I created Scarfolk and directed "Children of the Stones: The Original Soundtrack, inspired by the 1977 TV series of the same name." It also said that I "worked as a journalist and editor for various publications and has taught creative writing at the University of Bristol."
Even though only Scarfolk is correct, I'm putting all of that on my CV.

I'm trying out a higher dose of my medication.
Yesterday, I took it at 8:30am, finished my cup of tea, sneezed, then glanced over at the clock again and saw that it was suddenly 4:45pm.
And instead of doing the work I was supposed to have done, I appear to have re-created 'Potato Jesus' as a stained-glass window.

I was a lifer (30 years), but I haven't needed it once since I started using the suite. I'm still testing it out, but there are loads of fun possibilities, such as changing the weather in photographs! If only Affinity would develop an After Effects substitute.

After god knows how many years of work, the people behind the 4K project have released the final installment. For those who don't know: a group of dedicated restorers, unhappy with the reworked Special Editions, hunted down, scanned and restored the original 35mm theatrical prints of the first Star Wars trilogy in Ultra High Definition. They're better than the official blurays. Incredible work, not only in terms of authentic content but even the picture quality is superior.

Jack Dorsey is furious that has attracted "very very common" people. He also doesn't like the idea of moderation tools facilitating the banning of racists.

All these tech billionaires are like a version of the movie Big, in which a pre-adolescent boy wakes up in the body of an aging Howard Hughes. Or Colonel Kurtz. Or a sardine.
