Farage being given the oxygen of publicity by the BBC.

This is a company who has never won a seat at an election.

And yet there the cunt is - on the radio.

He has never done a day's work and has made his fortune by sprouting racist nonsense at every opportunity

This is a man so vile his own turds recoil at being associated with him.

He should apologise to every tree he sees for wasting its oxygen

The UK’s coastal ‘ghost enclaves’ are the result of government failure on low-use homes

@therightarticle we moved up to West coast of Scotland. Talking to my neighbour after we moved in there was a collective sigh of relief when the village heard our house wasn't going to be a holiday let.

We are in a low income coastal area. House prices are often unaffordable. The village has 30ish houses of which there are 6 holiday lets

Admittedly 2 are scenery accommodation of people who live on site (ie rent out rooms/ annex)

But overall the effect is to rise house prices, and rents

Scottish Green MSP Mark Ruskell MSP has written to Anas Sarwar calling on any future UK Labour government to rule out a new nuclear reactor being built in Scotland - after the UK Tory Government announced plans to do so.

Scotland has extraordinary access to renewable resources. This is what we must invest in as we build for the future, not expensive reactors that will only leave behind a toxic legacy for future generations.

ScotInTraining,
@ScotInTraining@mastodon.scot avatar

@ScottishGreens Scotland needs to be very angry about this.

Not only are the tories wanting to build a new nuclear power station against our will.

They are also saying devolution has failed and needs HOL oversight.

They are saying the Scottish Government (who we voted for) should answer to an unelected chamber that the tories have appointed hundreds of people to.

Absolute bullshit.

Independence is the answer, and soon.

Its been clear for ages that many public service cuts are false economies.... as a friend of mine pointed out some time ago, if you cut early intervention & prevention services (which can be relatively cheap & effective), you then enlarge the demand for more expensive (and often mandatory) crisis services....

A new IFS study that looked at closing police stations, suggests, likewise that every £1 saved by closing a location increased social costs by £3!

@jwi @ChrisMayLA6 @tkinias an excellent example is homelessness in Finland.

Spend less than we do and has functionally ended homelessness.

I think it comes back to Graham Norton quote on taxes "we can spend money to build a wall or pay taxes so we don't have to" ie life is better for all if we properly fund societal improvement

@Geri so they stack the system against workers. They remove workers rights. Raise inflation, cut health service, cut benefits. Blame the poor, then have the brass balls to complain about MH.

Anyone who is long term sick isn't delighted about it.

Then they have rigged the system that if you are off sick, support is so poor you will end up with anxiety or depression.

The real mental health issue is hoarding whilst your fellow human suffers

I wouldn't normally turn to British Vogue for a strident defence of Diane Abbott, but...

''none of this parliamentary rhetoric about extremism & MP safety has been mobilised to protect Diane Abbott after the Conservative’s biggest donor said he wanted to shoot her. Quite the opposite; the system has moved to shield Frank Hester, a poor man who made a little mistake & needs to be given grace and compassion'!

So tell us, imposed Prime Minister @RishiSunak: which unruly mob has been in charge of Law & Order in the UK for the last fourteen years?

I suggest if you wish to see Britain return to democratic rule, rather than calling on the police to arrest everyone who is in the slightest way disgruntled by your policies, you resign and call a General Election; because you have neither the will nor the ability to manage this country.

ScotInTraining,

The tories are a wounded party. And therefore very dangerous.

They know they will lose badly at the next election so will stay in power as long as possible.

They want to stay in power so they can continue to gain as much for themselves as possible.

They are getting lower and lower in their behaviour.

This is a very worrying time for democracy as they will do whatever they can to hold on.

A wonderfully curved 1860s blonde sandstone tenement on the corner of Wilton Street and Belmont Street in the West End of Glasgow.

For me, nice, sweeping curves are one of the major features missing from many modern buildings. I've often wondered if this is because straight-edged boxes are much easier to draw with the Computer-Aided Design software now used by many architects.

ScotInTraining,
@ScotInTraining@mastodon.scot avatar

@thisismyglasgow as the chap from penguin books famously said "good design costs the same as bad design".

I suspect its more to do with the cost of building and materials. Square brick boxes will always be cheaper than beautiful curved stone buildings.

However one brings joy and is good for the soul, the other brings blandness and indifference.

But I live in Scotland.

Public owned is far better. I have had better customer service and its included in my council tax (which is still cheaper than England's council tax alone). I had a leak, couldn't find the shut off inside or out. They were here in 20 mins. I live with fields all around and 10 miles to the nearest town. Always have been great on the phone.

A small but significant global movement is seeking to make free to use as a central plank to urbanism.

as the Guardian point out:

'Flourishing & accessible public transport systems are an essential feature of sustainable 21st-century living. They are a means of social inclusion & wellbeing, helping to generate a sense of place and collective belonging'!

Being free from fares can be a big part of this... but in the UK we're wedded to an altogether different model!

I think the biggest threat to the environment, quality of life, the NHS, Human rights, and general decency is conservative party ideology.

Acting against the populations best interests for self gain should be seen for what it is. It is an illness. Anyone who does this lacks something fundamental in being human.

It is time we stopped voting them in to power and started rehabilitation for them.

Yes they "failed" at what we were told they were for....

But if you flip it on to its head and think the whole purpose was to syphon public money into private hands, then these are resounding successes.

It makes sense of it, and the appalling mis management.

I am thinking Westminster is beyond redemption. Scotland must get its independence as a priority.
