Opening tomorrow in Amadora, Lisbon: This is Not America: Letreiros Comerciais — Século XX (commercial signs of the twentieth century).

This is an exhibition of some of the incredible Letreiro Galeria collection. If you're not familiar with their work, I recommend a look at their instagram (https://www.instagram.com/letreirogaleria) with Portuguese signs that they've salvaged.

Just noticed Bluesky doesn't ACTUALLY add the alt text in the img itself. This is a big mistake and makes the service very inaccessible.

The text is actually in the very last part of the DOM (Document Object Model) tree... and is triggered via click. So, if the screen reader doesn't support JavaScript same way than for the seeing people, descriptive text is nowhere to be found. Even when it is, it can't be accessed easily.

Seriously considering cancelling Amazon Prime as it is up for renewal in a month at $139 plus tax.

We don’t use it ALL the time, but of course it is nice to have for the “free” shipping.

@onpaperwings I buy local, for the shops, followed by smaller online outfits, with amazon only considered if it's impossible to do either of those. (My wife once accidentally took prime, and I got it canceled!)

we spill a lot of pixels on fedi worrying about twitter. i think facebook is a larger threat. remember 3.5 billion use meta, 455 million use twitter.

meta has infiltrated and unified spheres of participatory society that formerly were distributed across a diversity of organizational structures, including small businesses, public institutions, private communications, nonprofits, etc

imo this is essentially the most consequential and pervasive privatization of social life in planetary history.

Is there a place in the where you can create a closed/private community with discussion boards/forums, etc?

I'm thinking of something that would have the functionality of things like Facebook groups, Circle, and Telegram groups.

It would be for members/subscribers to my magazine as a place to share and discuss various sign painting themes, a lot of which currently happens in Facebook groups.

@Tattooed_mummy @StefanThinks I was thinking about whether paella has largely been learned by British tourists in Spain, whereas tortilla (wrap, not omelette) may have entered the language predominantly via Mexicans in the USA, hence correct pronunciation of the latter, versus botched job on the former.

We just went to Mastodon 4.2.0-beta1+glitch on our server and exclusive lists is the feature I've been waiting on. Now I can have a list with the Berlin Demo Ticker (which is sometimes very high volume) and it won't fill up my main timeline. It's great.

What is the maximum number of national borders that you can cross without crossing the same border twice?

Share a map for bonus points and a ⭐️

Clarification: Crossing from Spain to France on the Atlantic side is distinct to doing so on the Mediterranean side, and so you get four crossings as follows: Spain — France — Andorra — Spain — France.

Please to help find an answer to this question posed by my eldest daughter (8) as we set off on holiday, which involves crossing one border.

@bryanhansel no, the route doesn't have to be circular, and only land borders apply. Given the number of countries, the solution will likely be a route across Europe and Asia, perhaps starting in Portugal.

Random idea: adding a feature to social media apps (or clients like Ivory or Mona) that resurfaces a random post you bookmarked at the top of your feed (or in a separate tab) each day.

Kinda like Readwise already does with saved quotes.
