I remember being a kid, and having the realization that the money the government has is our money, and how weird it is that people act like using social services is taking advantage of the system somehow. We are the system, the people embezzling money through the "defense" budget are the people taking advantage of the system.

@DesertHarper @MasterMischief @TexasObserver Homonyms aren't always easy to detect... when looking at a familiar piece our brains often fill in "what we meant to say." And breaks vs brakes is a hugely common error at least among Americans. As an automotive enthusiast I see that error multiple times per week in posts about cars. If you read the article and decided the wrong homonym in the headline was the important aspect of it, perhaps introspection is in order.

So, Republican stooges in the House find a shill to lie about her own daughter's death to smear DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden and the Dems. Her daughter died around the time Biden was inaugurated, so the fentanyl that killed her was probably smuggled in under Trump. Her daughter died BEFORE MAYORKAS WAS CONFIRMED.

DerpSlantis has the charisma of week-old raw fish, and Republicans still like him more than a brown woman (who's a piece of work in her own right, but Ronnie GogoGaloshes is probably worse even than Frump, because Ronnie actualy knows how government works and it makes him a more effective saboteur.)

If you just browse, watch Netflix, shop, net banking, etc, Linux distributions like Mint or Ubuntu could save you money. It is an environment-friendly option.

@SomeGadgetGuy @nixCraft This is also true of Intel-based Macs. When Apple stopped offering updates for my ancient Mac Mini, I installed Linux on it and continued using it as my desktop for years. I only recently rescued a 4-year-old small-form-factor PC to seriously increase my desktop performance. For $90. (I went straight to the same Ubuntu LTS based distro I'd been running on the Mini, didn't bother with Win10)

@SomeGadgetGuy @nixCraft Are there people who get new computers every year because "Oooh, shiny new!" like the iPeople are with new iPhones?

I actually DREAD migrating to a new machine and getting everything "just so" again. My 4ish-yr-old work laptop is going to be replaced because policy is to replace w/ new instead of just replacing the battery that's turning into a spicy pillow. THAT migration will be FUN (an acronym, y'know.)

@SomeGadgetGuy @nixCraft I wonder how much of that is driven by the false economy of buying whatever's on sale at <insert major retailer> when they do buy new machines. When I buy a machine (or back in the day when I built them) I tend to shoot for one step down from the top-tier processor, so less premium for latest-greatest but something that's going to be viable for years, with plenty of RAM and fast storage. That usually lasted me 5+ yrs, which lately is stretching closer to 10.

As a former retail worker, I know how hard the Christmas season is. People are rushed, rude, stressed, and tend to take it out on those who ring up their sales or help them find the right size sweater for Aunt Judy.

Just once, be kind to a retail worker. Be patient. They sometimes endure the worst of human behavior for little pay, and they don't exist to become whipping posts for your frustrations.
If you can't be kind, then at least be patient. They're doing the best they can, just like you.💜

Because Madoff stole from mostly rich, mostly white people, ultra high net worth individuals, financial institutions. US society makes sure that rich folk are made whole, have loans forgiven (Eg PPP), etc.

But the people that SBF stole from are unlikely to ever get their money back. Because they were disproportionately Black, low net worth individuals. AKA, normal people.

WOMEN of color get told they need more "traction" (polish, prep, other backers, track record, etc.) while SBFs and Zuckerbergs get bonus points for being slovenly slackers.
