I finally uploaded my #twitter archive to a personal website, in this case using Github Pages!
I did it in a few minutes even though I have 0 knowledge of website creation (not counting the twitter archive download).

Anyone knows of a #Mastodon app that allows you to do drafts one or more #threads ? (Not facebook - actual threads)
@feditips ? 🙏

Edit: to be more specific: I’d like to be able to create a thread in the app, so a sequence of posts (not just 1 post) that can each have text, images etc. and are in a specific order, and if need be save it and come back to update it later, and eventually post it.
Also, I am using iOS and desktop (Windows). If you check the comments you’ll see that Fedilab seems to allow this but for Android.

1. projects that you’ve already almost completed (hiding the fact that they’re almost completed, so that you can use the funding for completely new projects), or
2. new projects that you haven’t really started yet (for which you might just have some preliminary data)?

Do you think 1) is unethical? Do you think 1) is necessary? Do you think 1) has the highest chances of funding? Please comment :)

I know this is not Linkedin, but I’m curious: what are the tools that help your personal #productivity the most?

+] this basic pomodoro from @clive: http://text-pomodoro.glitch.me/ when I really need to focus

+] Zotero as a reference manager: https://www.zotero.org/, I would be lost without it

+] Github (desktop): my coding became much more focused, organized and reusable thanks to it: https://desktop.github.com/

[.] What I tried but didn’t work for me:

-] Tasks “manager”: tried Obsidian, One Note, Google Keep, Notebook… I can’t seem to find The One that works for me (and syncs with my laptop & phone). Taking suggestions!

-] Something to read and annotate pdfs: I got a Remarkable2 tablet, and then an Onyx Boox Note Air 2, and they’re just too slow and do not easily sync with my laptop and Zotero. For the most important papers I have to say I might prefer paper.. Also taking suggestions for this.

Edit: trying to make the bullet points not disappear in #IceCubes is still hard

Hey @spreadmastodon and @maystodon , I know we haven’t advertised #Maystodon so much but it starts tomorrow (1st of May) and maybe we should communicate a bit around it?
-> the goal for individuals is to only (or at least preferentially) post on Mastodon for the month of May
-> we could have themed events (e.g. on our neuromatch instance a Neuroscience Q&A??)
-> the goal for instances is to advertise the themes and benefits of their instance
-> we should also amp up our welcoming of new people by helping newcomers and answering to Intro posts

Any other ideas (and boosts) welcome!

Recent instance debates made me wonder what is a set of good moderation rules that moderate but do not silence or censor anyone?
Is there a “moderation bible” somewhere? What is the overarching goal of moderation?

For example, discrimination according to protected characteristics (age, gender, religion etc.) is clearly bad, but what if someone is just saying something that you disagree with?
What if someone is lying, either on purpose or just because they don’t know what they’re talking about?

At least one thing will always be clear: spam 😁

Is there a #Covid expert in the room?
My workplace has this rule for coming back to work after a Covid-positive test:

1- isolate for 5 days,
2- wear a mask for 5 days,
3- then do whatever you want.

They don’t require a negative test to come back.
Are we not contagious as long as the test is positive?🤔

So #ResearchGate just made an agreement with... the predatory publisher #MDPI

I know not everyone liked it but I was actually finding ResearchGate quite useful. Now this is completely trashing the little reputation they had left in the toilet. MDPI might have a few good journals but it is overall famously known for its predatory practices like not listening to the reviewers and not having enough time for proper review between submission and publication.

This is a really disappointing move from ResearchGate that's really not in their interest. I guess they got a big check for it? Makes you wonder what other unscientific content are they getting paid to promote.

I'm going to write to them (e.g. press@researchgate.net) to ask that they cut all ties with MDPI and any other predatory publishers. I hope that many users will complain too. If it has no effect, I'll just have to close my account and never go there again...

I guess you could say that not having proper peer-review is a service to the authors in a way?? 🤔​

#Gardening question, please help!
I think our #Cucumber has “downy mildew”.
(But it could also be something else - let me know if you know what)

I’ve found confusing information about how to treat it. Often the info is about “powdery mildew” instead. I don’t think that’s what this is?
I also don’t want to kill any of the nice insects that we have around.

Examples of the things I’ve read:

(x) spray with some mixture of non-fat milk and water
(x) spray with mixture of neem oil and water
(x) spray with mixture of baking soda, dish soap and water
(x) remove all the infected leaves
(x) just trim some leaves
(x) do nothing and hope that it goes away.

Anyone here has experience with it and can recommend a tested treatment? 🙏

The newcomers steps in there are listed in order, and the order is actually important! If you start following people, but you haven’t filled your profile yet, they will see the follow notification, check your profile, think that you’re a random person and will 99% be likely not to follow you.

If instead you take 5 min to add a profile pic, an account description, and write an #Introduction post before starting to follow people - they are much more likely to follow back 😀
They might even boost your intro post! And don’t worry - you can always edit it later.
