To make a mistake is human but to really fuck things up you need a computer.

Step to write software by human:

  1. Decide what you want your software to do (medium)
  2. Decide what you REALLY want your software to do in all the corner cases (very HARD)
  3. Write the code (Easy to Medium)
  4. Test the code (Medium)
  5. Debug the code (hard to very HARD).

Now, thanks to ChatGPT, you could improve this workflow by:

  • making step 3, the only easy step, somewhat easier (and thus hiring less competent engineers)

  • making step 5 nearly Impossible.

Did you know that (yes, the collection of screensavers for X11) is available on Android?

And that requires it to have a privacy policy in order to be available in the Play Store?

And that the maintainer chose to crowd-source a privacy policy where every item starts with "Unlike Google"?

It's become a great list of all the privacy violations Google did and still does. And I thought that it's gonna be long, but it's even longer than I imagined.

Germany’s AfD is so extreme it was kicked out of the far-right grouping in the European Parliament last month, but Elon Musk thinks their policies “don’t sound extremist.” That’s because he’s also a fascist.

it's a real oddity and a real beauty

Siedem lat później Rosja napadła na Krym i go anektowała.

"a potential gold mine for criminal hackers or domestic abusers who may physically access their victim’s device. Images include captures of messages sent on encrypted messaging apps Signal and WhatsApp, and remain in the captures regardless of whether disappearing messages are turned on in the apps."

In 2024 it still somehow isn't standard practice to ask in the design process: Are we building the killer app for domestic abusers?

Blocklists are not only community-maintained resources, but often charge for monitoring and removal services.

There is an imbalance between small and large operators, and the fact that many people suggested us to just use service from $$company$$ instead of self-hosting emails indicates the terrible situation.

We have written about our position in detail previously: https://blog.codeberg.org/how-blocklists-prevent-the-internet-to-be-decentralized-and-safe.html

honestly feel like I'm losing my fucking mind reading this shit. how does this make any fucking sense? you send an AI bot to a video meeting you're not attending where presumably other coworkers will also send their bots?????? to what fucking end? what is the point of this? why are we having NPCs video chat with eachother? what gets done with this? what is the purpose? how is this not just a fucking email? is this what jokerfication is? this doesn't make any fucking sense!

radicalrobit,
@radicalrobit@laserdisc.party avatar

the future is just chatbots on video calls with each other (why is there a video call at all!?!?) who will then report back to you about the transcript of the video call between chat bots that everyone sent their chatbot to instead of going themselves?????

yukijoou,

@radicalrobit that's the one thing that gets me every time with ai is how it can "help you do write full emails from bullet points", and "summarise emails into bullet points" - like, what about we give up on formalism and just send lists of bullet points to one another. if you don't think the person you're writing to is worth properly writing out a full email, just, don't? instead of using copyright laundering machine 4.0 and destroying the planet

it really feels like some people need a philosophy class on universalizability - kant figured this out in the 1700s!

Data brokers are bad enough, but imagine executives sell data to worse criminals who fraud the elderly and others. I hope they get the maximum.

“The scheme lasted for 10 years, resulting in hundreds of thousands of Americans losing large sums of money to fraudsters in what was essentially a targeted, data-driven scam.”

@JdeBP @wolfsbruder Worth noting that the most recent conviction for High Treason in the UK took place in ... 2023! Because trying to murder the monarch is an offense classified as High Treason under the UK’s legal systems.
