I just realized that twitter barrier--apparently you need to be logged in now--also prevents people from seeing the emergency things like weather, earthquake, transit issues...

Those services have to leave there. They should have before anyway, but now it's not a public venue at all.

The stories about National Geographic today should be headlined "Disney lays off the last of National Geographic's staff writers" -- and put the responsibility where it belongs.

At the very least, stories should start like this: "The Disney Co.'s National Geographic laid off its remaining staff writers..."

The same policy should apply to layoffs at newspapers controlled by hedge funds -- and any media org owned by a larger entity.

Toot = Post (named after the Mastodon mascot, in theory)

Favourite = Like (there's a separate Bookmark function if you really want to keep track of posts)

Boost = Re-Tweet, shares a post with your followers

Instance = Server = The site you signed up on, each server is independent

Birdsite = Hellsite = Twitter

Fediverse = This place you're on right now, reading this. Mastodon is one kind of server on here, but there are many other types.

Pitää kyllä kehua käyttäjäkokemuksen parantumista.

Nykyinen firmware-valitsin (https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/) on hillittömän kätevä, tarvii vain pastettaa reitittimen malli, niin antaa toimivat imaget. Aiemmin piti hahmottaa piirisarjoja jne, joka itsellekin teetti vähän aina mietintää, että mistä ne nyt kaivettiinkaan.

    I know nothing about (besides it having an inferior protocol and moderation tools supposedly) but this take is honestly fair. I used purely for the sake of it ( and all) but the experience was pretty terrible. The whole place felt barren and relied too much on following filters/hashtags but that’s way too unreliable and inorganic for me.

    That changed entirely tho when I moved to . I’m not sure what’s done differently here but right off the bat I’ve engaged with more people from across instances and the whole ✨ vibe ✨ felt so much better.

    So, for others who’s had the same experience using , I’d totally recommend creating a Calckey account and try it out. If after a while you’ve decided that it’s your thing then go ahead and migrate your account over. Most Calckey instances, if not calckey.social, should even support migrating your posts from Mastodon in addition to followers, following list and whatnot.

    At the end of the day though honestly, just use whatever that suits you (or don’t). Pay no mind to people that love policing other people’s lives on here like it’s their full time job and you’d be significantly better off.

    Wherever I look I can see news about a few very rich individuals being stranded on a submarine that was supposed to take them on a tour of the Titanic. The effort put in place to rescue them appears huge in scope.

    Last week over six hundred people died in a off the coasts of and nobody cared. Nobody even bothered to start a rescue operation until it was too late.

    Stop pretending people are equal, I hate this hypocrisy.

    @immersfer Tuo aikuiskoulutustuki on kyllä tosi huono idea lakkauttaa. Ihmiset opiskelevat työllistäville aloille sen avulla. Mutta kaipa Suomesta halutaan halpatyövoiman maa, eikä haluta kilpailla korkealla koulutuksella enää.

    My dudes, that is less than five percent of America, and they are only out running around expressing these ideas freely because we closed all routes to mental health treatment, financial aid to those whose need it, treatment for substance abuse disorders.

    The guy who had a dead pig on a stick in Miami is NOT OKAY, and needs HELP.

    But one section of voters doesn’t want to tax the rich to pay to help these Americans. It starts with Ronald Reagan cutting benefits for people, and it’s just gotten worse.

    Anyone walking around with a dead animal on a stick can’t work.

    And yes, our own science says 5% of every society needs some help to think rationally.
