We've just released #PuTTY version 0.80! This is a SECURITY UPDATE, fixing the newly discovered 'Terrapin' #vulnerability, aka CVE-2023-48795, in some widely used #SSH protocol extensions.

The release is available in the usual place, at https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

We urge users to upgrade, and also upgrade #OpenSSH servers. A fix is needed at both ends of the connection to eliminate the vulnerability.

The @vulncheck team wrote a Log4Shell retrospective to celebrate the disclosure's two year anniversary. The vulnerability was heralded as the most critical vulnerability ever. In reality, it was hardly different than any other emerging threat, of which, we see more than a dozen every year. The pool of exploitable targets was never huge, and despite the predictions of exploitation long into the future, few exploitable hosts remain.
