@NanoRaptor Feel like if you painted something vantabeige you'd keep bumping into it due to it being so uninteresting light doesn't reflect off it nor absorb it, just passes through it rendering it invisible.
Reddit is reportedly making more than a decade of user content available to an AI firm for $60 million, just as Reddit gets ready to go public. FOLLOW THE MONEY!
@mrcompletely Be aware though that Reddit may restore your posts even if you remove everything and close your account. Did happen to me and wasn't an isolated incident. This was just prior to the blackout though so it might not apply anymore but just a heads-up. @lauren
Half formed thought; The “OMG it looks so real!” posts on openai videos are the end result of humans that have been fed too much AI output and now have corrupted visual recognition systems. The videos look like the fever dreams I had after I ate that 7 year old jar of mayo in one sitting.
I love that “you sound scared” has become a way to shut down critics of AI.
…yes.
yes, I absolutely am scared of it.
No, I’m not ashamed of that.
I don’t hate AI. I don't believe it’s going to destroy us terminator style.
But I’m scared half to hell of the misinformation, political divisions, unemployment, manipulation, spam and deepfake porn and what it’s going to do to our world.
Like it or dislike it, everyone should have a healthy level of fear about what this technology can do.
@NanoRaptor A few decades on and it's next to impossible to find a complete Powder Mac in the wild. Sure you'll find one but there's always some missing fragments or the badge has scratches.
@NanoRaptor The increased cost of manufacturing logo pixel geometries (and in this case drastically lowered green band fidelity due to the apple leaf doing most of the lifting) limited the innovation to the higher end of the Duo line.
Apple have been very cagey on the origins of the Brundlemac. All were unique, most were generally compatible with one another, but all had one or two ports that didn't seem to connect to anything else.
"...the occasional moaning and sighing is the worst part, but if the ominous error dialogs and expressions of terror at being shut down don't put you off, you'd do worse than this very well priced bundle. In some markets, Apple are paying customers to take Brundlemacs" - MacWorld, September 1997.
@thepoliticalcat A smart child is a dangerous one, what if it starts to question the orthodoxy? No, keep them stupid and docile, they're easier to manipulate. /s
For the first time in a long while I've wished I had a blog I could dump a whole heap of thoughts on the Georgie Purcell/Nine News/Adobe/Guardian photoshopping business. It's at the intersection of some of my biggest interests and strongest skills.
I've been having very PEOPLE ARE WRONG ON THE INTERNET emotions this last day and a half and ... haha yeah as if a blog would fix me here.
y'know, if there were enough Power Mac G5 and iMac G5's to go around, i'd just call it a decade and declare PowerPC and Mac OS X 10.5 the new and only standard for software development.
sorry apple, you just didn't get more enjoyable as time wore on.
Trad Wife memes are always like a traditionally attractive skinny blonde woman in a white dress, in a field of flowers, holding hands with their immaculate children. The text always says something like, Why are you working a job, instead of doing your true calling? This is Godly Motherhood!
This how I know these are made by people who have never been around children, or possibly even women, and also never had to worry about money.
@RickiTarr Never ignore the Arayan messaging behind the Trad Wife memes, it's all a strange bouillabaisse of keeping wimminfolk in their place and assertions of white supremacy and returning to the distant past of the 1700s or whatever.
A quick note. If you liked system 6/7 and fuzzy light grey modern macOS annoys you, try going to preferences->accessibility->display, and turn on Increase Contrast. It took me half an hour to not find jarring and now I really dislike going back to the field-of-white-fog regular UI. Here it is on Monterey.
@NanoRaptor Oh, I dunno... that's not appealing at all. Could have somewhat tried to integrate it better. Not for me but will be glorious for someone looking for a more defined UI.
@fraying@alexisdyslexic For whom? Another rich person who will never tax the super-wealthy fairly because they've been paid not to? This is just me ranting against the system as is, we can change it but it'll take time and I hope we can do it.
This is why many of us have been yelling about the dangers of unregulated AI for years.
Via Kyle Griffin:
The #NewHampshire attorney general's office says it's investigating what appears to be an "unlawful attempt" at voter suppression after NBC News reported on a robocall impersonating President #Biden telling recipients not to vote in the presidential primary.
Whenever an org says it wants to use ‘AI’ for a better customer experience, it is almost certainly lying.
Customers are not clamoring for shitty chat bots that extend the time to get to a real human. Customers are not asking for LLM-authored SEO-driven FAQ pages. Customers are not asking for yet more hero images of people with extra fingers.
The org is likely only interested in using ‘AI’ to reduce effort, save money, cut staff.
@aardrian They've never wanted it, not since before voice recognition on automated phone trees, automated phone trees themselves or outsourced call centres. Every innovation has only ended up an obstacle set up to make sure you give up before you make it to a human.
