Docusign just admitted that they use customer data (i.e., all those contracts, affidavits, and other confidential documents we send them) to train AI:

They state that customers "contractually consent" to such use, but good luck finding it in their Terms of Service. There also doesn't appear to be a way to withdraw consent, but I may have missed that.

@beka_valentine i rant about this stuff ALL the time. i taught myself basic html in 1994 and found some super cheap web hosting and put up a super basic website with mostly pictures of my cat, because that's what the internet is for (duh).

now if i want a website i have to pester my web developer husband to find some sort of bullshit architecture or whatever (ghost, hugo, etc, i'm looking at you -- wordpress and i are not even on speaking terms) and set up a back end for me with some shitty template that can't be easily modified and is impossible to get content into or make it look like i want.

unless, of course, i learn CSS, which was that first step in the transition from HTML to suddenly complex bullshit. why can i no longer write a damn index.html file and FTP it to my /public_html directory on my host machine???? is that really so unreasonable??

@Mrfunkedude i used to have my clock radio set to wake me up at 7 with npr's "morning edition." then 9/11 happened and after about a week i couldn't fucking take it anymore and put a CD in the player instead. (which means the first track of röyksopp's "melody 3a.m." is forever etched into my neural pathways because i was lazy about switching to different records...)

@RickiTarr technically, it's percussion. in band and orchestra scores, it's grouped with the other percussion parts. i suppose it's like chimes or glockenspiel; you hit a metal thing with a hammer and it makes a sound.

What can we do with some #VancouverIsland pest species? We can learn how to cook & eat them, instead of just killing & wasting actual real #WildFoods & helping with #InvasiveSpecies at the same time.

Don't be super grossed out about learning to cook & eat some invasive insects. Especially if you already eat several wild foods, eat your homegrown foods & eat meat or buy everything from stores.

Every single one of those foods has insects on or in them - in some form & invisible to our eyes.(1)

@msquebanh i've been very squeamish about eating bugs, and my husband, who will eat anything, always gives me crap about it. "you sure you don't want some crickets?? they're nice and crunchy..." but reading your post just now, i realized dude i am a carnivore after all, and bugs are critters too, why not eat 'em? probably better for you than chicken parm or a burrito. 🙄🤔

I wish I could truly make people understand how much of a cult Conservative Fundamentalism is, and how much it truly brainwashes you. @stancarey @grammargirl totally barging in with something useless here, but thanks for teaching me a new word (i had no idea what "calque" meant). it describes perfectly the speech of an old IRC acquaintance from germany who always used "since years" -- "i haven't seen that movie since years." literal translation of german "seit jahren." we always mocked him for it but i bet that at a certain point he just started using it on purpose to rile us up... 😆🤔

@cwwilkie @RickiTarr lithuania and poland were one empire long ago. the lithuanian language is this weird mix of baltic and slavic that has weird diacritics. i once had a pen pal from lithuania. an israeli friend of my husband's was able to get lithuanian (EU) citizenship via her mother's family. ...that's probably the extent of my lithuanian experience. 😁🇱🇹
