Since people are talking about Kent State, Ohio, 1970, it's a good time to talk about Jackson State, Mississippi, 1970.

Similar situation, except there was no active protest, just a bunch of students hanging out. The mayor of Jackson declared a riot and called in the pigs. Someone threw a glass bottle, not at the pigs, but they still opened fire. Phillip Gibbs, a student at Jackson State, and James Green, a high school student who was walking home from his job, were murdered by cops. Many others were wounded.

Sepia-toned photo of a couple in a casual seated pose, looking towards the camera. She is on the left, nearly sitting on his lap, smiling, wearing a dark knee-length dress with buttons up the front and a wide collar, holding a white purse. Her hair is straight, shoulder-length, curled at the end, with bangs. He is wearing light-colored slacks and a boldly patterned shirt, like a Hawaiian short, and has his arm around his wife. His hair is short and his expression is more curious than friendly.

Indeed, and something to remember as the fascism escalates and ratchets:

The tactic is to impose rules upon people arbitrarily.

As well as the fact that it's a new set of rules these days

Today our 20ish-year-old cat passed away and we had to put an end to his suffering.

I would like to express that despite having to witness his suffering for Earth Day I tried to not make this about me as much as I could because, to be honest, The climate crisis is an issue that has severe consequences.

I could not give less of a shit about those who choose inaction and to be careless. I am sorry but if you can't have compassion for this issue there is something wrong with you.

I love the earth deeply and this gives me the courage to care and despite adversity to do what is good.

Needless to say, climate change deniers are going to be uncared for by this community.

So I am hearing that there was a stunning walk out by professors

Which is very encouraging because there was a huge police presence this morning and I'm betting they had wind of the walkout and were going to make some arrests

But looking at that picture, they had no chance it's like 50 protesters to every police officer

Very. Satisfying.

And at this point since it's proliferating there may be no stopping it

Have you ever met someone who lies all the time, but doesn't seem to realize they are lying?

voxofgod,
@voxofgod@jorts.horse avatar

@RickiTarr My mom had to maintain her image her whole life which is understandable her father was chairman of the board of supervisors of LA county for 9terms.

Thing was it didn't work well for her especially in her first marriage which she left after four kids to marry the second Lebanese guy in the parish.

Huge scandal

He was one of the first litigation consultants, massaging truth, to help lawyers lie better.

So it was a perfect storm him massaging her image both convinced of its truth

He's a Christian minister

We bonded because he had a very old dog that knew my first dog

Anyway I was talking about Columbia and they said I know it's terrible I said no it's wonderful and she asked Oh are you for Hamas?

It occurs to me that like the good Germans, Japanese r a country of defeated fascists and therefore very sensitive to the notion that they may be, overly sensitive to the point where they may defend them

What these would-be Mozarts need is basic income.

It should also be mentioned that pretty invariably that level of genius happens when there is support. Mozart for all his poverty was I'm pretty sure especially at the end of his life with at least daily care... But a pauper's grave was a lot more common than one might think as far as I can surmise

And that's completely forgetting performers

It's baby boomer bootstrap bromide bullshit to say an opera singer won't thrive with extra help, which translates to immeasurable joy

I avoid all public encounters when feeling like this. I don't want to misdirect sadness/anger/frustration. I listen to my internal orange flags & heed them. Self-care.

voxofgod,
@voxofgod@jorts.horse avatar

@RickiTarr I went from a private Catholic school in La cañada California for my first year to a public school South Pasadena high School for my sophomore year, my junior year was at Templeton high School

Being the difficult autistic kid with constant gut pain didn't make me too popular but I was kind of cool in my own way because I survived that and developed my own unique worldview that everyone was at least a little interested in

My high caste privilege probably played into that as well..

voxofgod,
@voxofgod@jorts.horse avatar

@RickiTarr But high school was a trial for me It didn't help that my sexual abuser was also the person that drove me to my first year in school, without a word in the car

And that I was told to shut up about the sexual abuse, without a word being said to me

And had to figure out how that was normal

So it took me until my 40s to understand that stuff, but I left high school one year early for junior college

I was just informed by one of the admins that I have 14 days to leave functional.cafe after I called a troll doing genocide apologia in my comments a zionist ape, where should I go? What servers don't bow to the complaints of ?

Functional.cafe are claiming I'm simply a multiple offender of their rules, which i will admit is true ever since they changed their rules, but I would like for it to be clear. They changed their rules in October specifically to accommodate Zionists complaining about my posts, the very day a tagged post of mine blew up and became among the most shared BDS posts on the activity pub network. I initially agreed to CW political posts, but as 's in has accelerated, killing all but one of my students in Gaza along with most of their families, I've concluded that hiding this behind content warnings is itself bowing to mild repression for the sake of satisfying the demands of the most extreme oppression: genocide.

I've seen plenty of pro-genocide posts in the local server feed. I dont think they are being asked to leave or even getting their posts censored, as mine increasingly have been (even removing posts with many likes from months ago, apparently on demand).

I'm sad I'll be losing all my past posts, especially those about and that I occasionally rediscover. Where can I go that won't turn similarly sour? My time with the may be up tbh. After being blocked and soft-blocked by nearly everyone I was buddies with in the community (for years!) for being an anti-genocide Jew, and now this, its quite clear that even spaces that act like they stand for universal liberties above all are actually willing supporters of the most oppressive regimes and ideologies on the planet. At least insofar as they are in origin and character.
