I am rescheduling my afternoon taxes appointment.

Not feeling good. Not feeling like I'll be able to keep my shit together, if I have to deal with any random public today. I'm having one of those super difficult, overly emotional days. When I feel that I could either start crying or start screaming, at the slightest provocation.

I avoid all public encounters when feeling like this. I don't want to misdirect sadness/anger/frustration. I listen to my internal orange flags & heed them. Self-care.

I'm not good at enforcing personal boundaries. That doesn't mean I don't try. It does mean that sometimes it's still very difficult — especially when I feel threatened.

Some trauma — and some abuse — takes a hell of a long time to heal.

It hurts, but if there is no acknowledgement of that and no apology, then I try to remember that this is on them not on me, and keep in mind thereafter that this is a person that I cannot trust — whether to have my back, or to consider my interest, particularly if they see it as conflicting with theirs. And that ranges from "This person is inconsiderate" to "This person does not actually see me as a real person."

LaTeX friends!

I’m looking for a modern and native (not electron) mac OS text editor that might take the place of textmate in my latex workflow.

I'm hoping to find something with existing bundles / scripts / extensions comparable to textmate’s LaTeX bundle. The great "Watch Document" feature works so much better than “latexmk -pvc”.

Any recs? I feel like the pickings are slim. When a nice native editor has any LaTeX support it's usually just syntax highlighting and a basic build script.

@cstross @mcnees I was going to suggest Atom, the least awful of all the code editors I found when the job I was just RIF'd from last week insisted I use a Mac, but a few weeks ago I heard Atom was being discontinued.

So probably don't do that.

@4d3fect @RickiTarr The problem with unqualified no's is that if you absolutely to not allow children to act professionally, then you cannot have any movies or TV shows that show children. Which would be really weird. Unless you CGI/deepfake them in ... and once you open the door of deepfaking child characters, how do you convince the film/TV/videogame industry it needs actors at all?

Believe me, the industry would like NOTHING BETTER.

@Itchy @Snowshadow The military, for the most part, can actually follow orders and understands fire discipline. Talking about our police as "militarized" is an insult to the military. What they are is tacticool wanna-bes. I'm sure Kyle wossname, Rittenhouse, could get into any police department he wanted to. But the US military won't take him. He failed the ASVAB too badly.

About to leave Sacramento for home, the longest and most utterly boring part of our trips. (I5– Grapevine) Harris Ranch does have great bathrooms though. 🤭

Our realtor timed it out so we’d be driving home during an Open House today instead of kicking us/Hammy out for 3 hours tomorrow. Pays off to have our neighbor/friend in that role.

I find today's outing most interesting because as I told you guys, I'm renting a vehicle through Lyft. The way that works is until I "earn" enough in fares to cover the cost of the rental (in addition to giving a required number of rides) I can't withdraw any funds.

@Adam_Cadmon1 There is nothing benign about any part of Uber's or Lyft's business model (or their copycats elsewhere in the world). There's fundamentally four parts to the plan:
— Destroy existing taxi service by undercutting it
— Get driver labor as close to net free as possible, denying drivers benefits by classing them as contractors
— Eventually replace human drivers altogether with automation
— Once 100% of fares go to the company, jack fares up as far as the unregulated market will bear

In the rare markets where government forces them to play by the rules, they declare it "unfair" and pull out.
