I love waiting for stuff that is already loaded.

Safari on the left super responsive, zero delay. Safari Technology Preview on the right, it takes like half a second until the text is in place.

Of course, the transitions also don’t support reduced motion settings, so they are a great additional way to make your users feel sick. There are no website settings to turn them off.

(CW: Video and video in the linked post are potentially vestibular triggers.) https://front-end.social/@bramus/112252063739648992

Video is split screen, klicking on content on the left reveals it without delay. On the right, an animation is triggered that takes about half a second. You just need to wait until the animation is settled to interact with it. And it is a full-page animation, so easily a vestibular trigger.

Apple is exactly as shit as every other tech company, because they have to be in order to win the capitalism game.

But yeah, they sure have got a lot of zealots…

The foundational tenet of “the Cult of Mac” is that buying products from a $3t company makes you a member of an oppressed ethnic minority and therefore every criticism of that corporation is an ethnic slur.

This Cory Doctorow (@pluralistic) piece today rightfully goes off on Apple's DOJ challenge and this towards the end is some hard facts and truths that some of the Apple Cult still doesn't understand or even acknowledge. https://pluralistic.net/2024/03/22/reality-distortion-field/#three-trillion-here-three-trillion-there-pretty-soon-youre-talking-real-money

“Bruce Schneier has a name for this practice: ‘feudal security.’ That's when you cede control over your device to a Big Tech warlord whose "walled garden" becomes a fortress that defends you against external threats… The keyword here is external threats. When Apple itself threatens your privacy, the fortress becomes a prison.” @pluralistic https://pluralistic.net/2024/03/22/reality-distortion-field/#three-trillion-here-three-trillion-there-pretty-soon-youre-talking-real-money ht @chasedmartin

NMA 2023 could provide accessible education to thousands of students thanks to the contribution of many who offered from a few minutes to several days of their time. Today we want to spotlight Steeve Laquitaine (https://steevelaquitaine.github.io) for his great contribution to creating project templates 🙏

is already starting well! (This is weird for me for a Monday.) good things already:

  1. proofs came! Vol 138.3 about to appear.
  2. practice this morning went well: working on a little and a little as sort of opposite modes, and some progress seems to be happening.
  3. feeling quite a bit better after a difficult weekend. The beach beckons but proofs go first. Hope everyone has a good day today, or at very least an interesting one!
