I really don’t understand user-hostile infrastructure like this in SF’s public parks. The main argument I’ve heard is that it’s to stop certain classes of visitor from ruining other visitors’ experience, but stereotyping one specific user group (skaters, in this example) is just old-fashioned bigotry.
Not to mention that this kind of (dubious) strategy isn’t even applied evenly. The worst experiences I’ve had in our public parks have almost entirely involved dogs, but I don’t see anti-dog infrastructure anywhere (heck, I don’t even see respect for, or enforcement of, existing dog regulations most of the time). #SanFranciscoHellscape#HostileInfrastructureEdition#ShowerThoughts
Like it would be an interesting service to just voluntarily go into a coma this election but with the option to vote super early. Vote in August and wake up next Feb and see what’s poppin #hottake#showerthoughts
Is a life sentence inherently unfair? If you’re 18 and get a life sentence, you spend way more time in jail than someone who gets a life sentence at 75.
On the reverse side of that, is a 5 year sentence like a life sentence for a 75 year old?
Just used calc() for the first time - oh is it nice. People pile on CSS a lot but there were times you had to do stuff like this with jQuery.
Anyway. I played around with sidenotes for my blog following the inspiration from Tufte CSS (still skeptical of people who name everything they do after themselves...). Seems to work great! Sure, there are probably more elegant ways to do this around images but whatever. Much better than footnotes, and it works great on mobile!
When i was in primary school, we would have weird recess debates about who the worst dictator was. Hitler? Zedong? Stalin? A dark horse (Pinochet, Franco, Pol Pot)?
Techbros are the modern equivalent. Who's the worst? Google? Zuckerberg? Dorsey? Musk (bought in but still)?
The currency of life isn't money, it's options. A monk can choose to leave the meager life, a prisoner can't. Money also gives options, but so do contacts, skills, knowledge, ... #life#currency#philosophy#showerthoughts
I am on my Windows computer so much for work that when I get off, I really just want to do something not on a computer. I realize that I now associate Windows with work and it doesn't feel like something fun or enjoyable. It doesn't feel personal to me.
I've been trying to figure out why lately I've had trouble with personal projects and perhaps this might be a small part of the answer.
